If you put a CD in the drive then rip it off the CD through Windows Media Player and it will convert it automatically. If you burn it onto a blank it will automatically convert it back to a wav. file (stereo/radio will read)

If you want an MP3 on a disk then copy the song into the CD drive folder in My Computer and burn it and it will keep it as an MP3. Well it did for me anyway.

I'll have to put a vote in for CD-DA extractor. Works like a charm. Put the cd in, hit the button and watch it go. Nicely sorted into folders and named.

Thanks for the help guys. Thought Media player could do this but could not get Dad's old version on 98 to do it.

Would DVD Decrypter be able to deal to the Music DVD. Can you use something like that to get the sound only of a DVD? Would be good to have that on my PC along with DVD Shink (have a DVD burner but don't have ether of those programmes).

nope dvd decrypter only removes CSS encryption (and macrovision)
You'll need to use something like virtualdub to extract the dvd-audio

Dvd decryter and dvd shrink are pretty good at other tasks tho'

BungBung sounds like he's on the right track. My program I use sounds like it would be very similar. That is Audio Catalyst. You can do all sorts of things, very user friendly.

Oh, now I know you're making MP3's of music you already have on original cd's right? Like, just for backups? Yeah, I thought so

The program you want is called 'DVD To MP3 Ripper'.

http://www.dvd222.com/index.htm - website was down when i checked. Just do a search.

The trail version only rips 3mins. Type in " DvD To MP3 Ripper crackz " in Google, this should bring up some warez crack sites, and do a search.

    Smile

As already mentioned; WMP 10 will rip from CD to MP3.
    Tools>Options>Rip Music>Under Rip Settings there is a drop down box-Select MP3.

You want Audiograbber, small, fast, free.

    http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/

Just shove in the cd, click the free cd db icon to get track details, then click grab and away it goes.

And most importantly it can use external encoders. So you can pair it up with Lame for when space it tight and you want mp3s. Or Vorbig OGG, when you want slightly closer to perfect quality at around 6mb/song. Or if your really keen there's always the Monkey audio encoder which is lossless.

Midi isn't really an audio format, it's a music format (could go on about this for an hour or so but it's not worth it).

What you need to do is convert the midi file to the wave file format. Winamp will quite happily do this. Just change the output plugin to the wavfilewriter plugin. Put all your midis in the playlist and away it'll go (just make sure to set up the midi input plugin to send it to the winamp sound system).

Then you can burn the wavs to cd audio format.

How big is the file? Can you post a link for it? Just an aside here: Followed the links for DVD Shink from Kazaalite to here Doom9.org - Usefully Software and was able to download DVD Decrypter as well as DVD Shink from there, no worries.
