Were there any warning lights on before it died?
I had a similar thing happen with the CR only a couple of weeks ago, while I was riding it to work I noticed the battery light and the cat convertor lights were on and thought to myself that I would hook it up to the battery doctor when I got home that arvo...
Yeah right!
That arvo, when I went to start it, the headlight and dash lights were all good but it just went clickedy click click. It was the stator, turns out it was a recall item so cost me nothing but in your case I think (as already suggested) that you should be covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act.
Also, I was given a loaner bike to get home... so if you need one then ASK for one and don't take no for an answer unless they really truely don't have one available/suitable...
Hope it gets sorted for you pronto so you can get back to enjoying your ride
