    Help with editing picture

I am wanting to put some text over the top of a picture, how do you do it?

I'd like to do it with both a photo and a downloaded pic. Obviously it's possible but I do not know how to go about it. So far I tried it out in word but made a bit of a mess of it, I can usually figure this stuff out but I want it to look reasonably good.

    Thanks much
Cats land on their feet. Toast lands jamside down.
A cat glued to some jam toast will hover in quantum indecision

Curiosity was framed; ignorance killed the cat

Fix a computer and it'll break tomorrow.
Teach its owner to fix it and it'll break in some way you've never seen before.

You'd be best served using a dedicated image editing tool.. if you want something powerful and open source, I'd recommend GIMP, however if you're after something more lightweight and easier to use, but still fairly powerful, Paint.NET is rather good, and freeware.

My vote is for Irfanview, http://www.tucows.com/preview/194967. Download plugin's as well. It's easy to use & does most day to day things easily.

I use Adobe creative suite 5. It's only around $4.5k too.

What about just using 'paint' ?

Holy crap, that's really come down in price, I seem to remember it being $10-15k last time I checked (which admittedly was many years ago)... Of course, it's still not worth it in many cases since there's OSS that can do all the same stuff, you're pretty much just paying for a combination of support and the fact that as the industry standard, pretty much any courses you might do will be taught using those tools, and tutorials will be easier to find.

    As for using paint...

+1 GIMP is kinda like a free Photoshop but obviously not as powerful or frickin amazing like Photoshop actually is. For a free program, I rate it highly!
