The 22 February quake: Offers to help Christchurch KBers

Like other people from all round NZ I'm sitting here wanting to help the folk in Christchurch but no idea how.
If anybody has offers of assistance for our fellow KBers maybee one thread to offer it is a good idea.

Myself I can offer storage space for bikes/cars/stuff rather than it stuck in a depot somewhere.

If anyone has damage to their garage and needs temporary bike storage in chch, I have some room in my garage - could probably fit about 5 bikes in there.

If anyone needs a break away from it there's always a bed in Wellywood.

I am in the middle of organising a bedford bus with about 8 able bodied men and a shitload of supplies to go down from Welly hopefully this weekend. I will be needing a decent contact down there to coordinate with (Where are we needed, where are the supplies needed and what supplies?). Also, if anyone knows anyone on either of the boats, then a discount or even gratis passage would be a nice gesture. We're not mega rich and all of us are taking time off work on short notice, so we'll need a bit of a hand getting across the water...

This has come up from Grab a seat too..might be of help...

Check the AirNZ link, as it's updated daily http://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/chris...thquake-update

Air NZ will be offering $50 seats on any flights to/from CHC until Friday morning. These can be booked via the Air NZ website or contact centre.

There will also be an additional 747 service AKL-CHC (1030/1150), and CHC-AKL (1320/1450) tomorrow - all seats $50.

While the horror of the situation sinks in, it is human nature to want to do anything we can to help.

The worst thing we can do is to race into Christchurch in our thousands (as many are determined to do), clogging up the streets as we cruise around desperately looking for someone to hand a blanket to. To be brutally honest, such well-meaning efforts will be part of the problem rather than the solution.

The call may come for the assistance of amateurs, but Christchurch already has almost 400,000 of their own. In the meantime, the best thing we can do is to stay calm.

Got a bed spare in Auckland. Well two, a queen and a single. Plus floor space if needed

Happy to ferry people to/from airport if required.

Teed up waiting for the blood service to decide if they need blood urgently - currently they are saying they have enough.

We can offer accommodation to anyone from Christchurch who needs it. Have one double bed and a couple of airbeds. We are only 30 mins from Auckland and can arrange pick up from the airport if needed.
