Rifles are usually a waste of time for rabbit hunting. A shotgun is the way to go.

Need more skill and cunning with a .22 - and the little critturs are better eating if they've been shot with a rifle. (as long as they're head-shot or similar.)

I find the best way is to get a mate to drive a car (not on a public road) while I sit in the front seat, then when we see a rabbit I jump out with the shotgun, load it then point and blast. It's good having an over and under gun because I can quickly load it meaning I don't have to have it loaded while in the car.
