Still nothing here but there have been sightings of assessors....rare beasts..
Hororata Garage got a yellow - we are not optimistic, aftershocks continue to spread cracks and upstairs ceilings - original matchlining - are coming off the beams. front wall is bulging too...
Doing a major move of furniture tomorrow to lighten the top storey as much as possible - and make the walls more visible to check for damage.
On the bright side - the septic tank seems to be in one piece..
does anyone get the feeling the aftershocks seem to happen more at night? well the larger ones seem to happen at night anyway
Yes, thanks for the offer but we'd already had a builder and his architect look at it. At that point it was looking straightforward but the aftershocks have continued to inflict damage to the point that I anticipate a yellow with an inspection from a structural engineer to follow.
We may fall into the awkward category where EQC assess and make an offer to cover the estimated repair costs and we have to make a guess as to whether this will cover the inevitable unforseen hidden structural damage also...
Short of pulling the weatherboards off it's impossible to know what damage we'll find.
They may of course decide repair is not cost effective.
I think it may be that you're more likely to notice them at night when you're in bed or sitting down watching TV, rather than moving around during the day
There's been several I've felt at night but missed some the same magnitude during the day while I've been walking around

Yeah - a pretty busy night. The wife thought a bus had hit the corner of the house at midnight - the 4.4 was on our own local fault again, 20k SW of Darfield.
Just home from Orthopaedic Surgeon, need an arthroscopy for a torn cartilage(twisted knee when thrown out of bed...lifting the Ducati of my car didnt help either!)Not looking hopefull that I will be racing at Greymouth Labour weekend....
On a positive note....the bathroom, toilet and laundry are looking sweet
Roofer doing makeshift repairs to make my roof watertight today...$600 cash!
Still no sign of any assessors.....
The daffodils & cherry blossom are looking lovely
Gutted for two nephews and my best friend & their families, their houses are to be demolished
I've been asked if, in my capacity as a Genie, I can please stop the shaking. It's gonna take me some mighty power but I'll see what I can do.
In the meantime...I'm thinking of each and everyone of you.
I'm not so worried about the shaking, the large lump of soggy sand that our house is on seems to damp the aftershocks quite nicely, we just get a gentle rolling with associated creaking of the house.
I am getting pissed off with the rain though, if you could do something about that it would be appreciated. How is the large pile of silt behind my house supposed to dry up and blow away by itself when it keeps getting rained onI really don't want shovel it all up because I'll end up shovelling up my lime chip path with it as well, it looks nice but it's an arse to get silt out of.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987
