I had a visit from EQC this afternoon. They had a good look around and said that someone from geotech will have to come for a second look due to the ground damage Ive got. So no final decision for a while yet, but they said its looking like the house will be fixed and the garage/workshop replaced.
They also said a neighbours house "is munted" and will be demolished, and I know of another one round the corner that's coming down.
One of the EQC guys is down from Tauranga and the other one is over from Oz. The aussies are coming over in 3 week rotations and he said there's another 150 of them waiting to come over if they're needed. There's a few of the EQC guys doing the area - they didn't call in because I'd made a claim but just because they're checking out the area. They didn't know about my claim, I had to tell them. It's just lucky I was home I guess.
Good luck Helen. Just a thought - you may want to ask your neighbours to give you a ring on your mobile if they spot the EQC guys in the area while you're at work so you can shoot home for them.
The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, .... but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,... shouting "man, what a ride"!!!
The two guys who came out to us made an appointment first...but we're out of town.
A team leader up from Invercargill - and annoyed at missing the Stadium Southland collapse.
And an experienced builder down from Foxton Beach.
Now like so many others we wait for EECA's chimney expert who is apparently a structural engineer too.
Yesterday was a great day!
6 weeks after the quake and I got visited by EQC.Three men - one a kiwi working in the States(a loss adjuster)an Australian, and a Hamilton builder.
They spent 2 & 1/2hrs here and were awesome -said my house was fixable!Garage will prolly need replacing and its uncertain yet if costs will be under $100,000 or over....
Know that its going to be a long slow process but Im just hugely relieved that my house will live
Thoughts with you others still awaiting decisions......
The EQC team approach is working very well. They are certainly thorough.
friends at Aylesbury had had their insurance companies assessor out who judged their house repairable.
The EQC assessors looked deeper - found the damage the original assessor had missed and the house is now a writeoff...
I think that this may possibly be reasonably common as the first people in after the quake were usually civil defence volounteers - not experts.
Ferk you must be getting sick of the aftershocks. They must be making some of the damage worse? Might go down the West Coast to the Caltins Rally. So as to avoid the Canterbury rabble who must be getting a bit grumpy about it now.
gee... so my opion ment nothing, dont worry I wont judge your nursing skills hehehe
ps: not that I looked at your garage but it seemed fine at a glance?
yes and no, sure every rumble and ya thing what now but theres sure as hell no reason to be grumpy, its not like the city was leveled, tiz a part of life, I for one have other issues making me grumpy like on going health and sick kids... those grumpy like you say generally must have it sweet if after shocks is all they winge about. (excluding the Kaiopoi and avonside resadents)
cheers DD
(Definately Dodgy)
Rock 'n' Roll, good way to put it
I'm glad to see your house will be saved.
I wonder though, with all the aftershocks doing more damage every time what new damage is being done. Not just your home, a friend was there in the holidays and while there experienced an aftershock and watched cracks appear right in front of her eyes
I think that can happen even after just a few bourbans. Rallys can be much like aftershocks.... actually in effect Bikers are hardened for acts of nature.
"Mud slides"=one heck of a wet rally site, (I'll just pitch the tent where ever the bike ends up)
"Volcanic Eruption"=Way to much to drink, and the ole stomach ruptures sending a nights "magma" sky ward.
"Tsunami"= Damn it, trip in the bunny hole, and there goes me drink.
"Avalanche"=Damn that side stand sank into the ground and that entire row of bikes went down.
"Tornadoe"=woodybee
"Heat Wave"=Strippers
"Drought"=The bar just ran dry
"Famine"=the food caravan just ran out of whitebait
And one could go on.
Education is a grand thing, thank you Mr GB.

Hmmm, so the status of my claim on the EQC website has changed from being processed to loaded successfully.
Anyone know what that means?
It's for contents only as they missed it off the original claim, and nobody on the phone seemed to be able to change an existing claim so they told me to put a new one in. I'm hoping it might mean some money is on it's way for a new telly.
No more news on the house since the assessors came, I wonder when we'll hear what it's fate will be![]()
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

When the assessors finished they should have given you an indication - either yes, it's fixable - or we still have to send an engineer, keep waiting...
For a TV - go see the emergency grant people, no questions asked as to what you want it for...and non refundable too. If for instance I had a bunch of screaming kids and no TV, I'd consider that an essential.
