Nominated repairer was Trevor Pierce who ordered new fairing & parts thru Casbolts.6 weeks later after all other parts had arrived and various evasive answers from Casbolts they anounce that the fairing is not available

New fairing sourced from Australia yesterday, will arrive today or tomorrow

Get in the cue ya ratbag! Been waiting longer for a lot more!

The word I got from EQC a couple weeks back was that all 'accounts' are being done in Australia due to the huge volume of claims. Once Aussie has written the cheque it is sent slow post to your letterbox ...............

I have unkind words to say now so I will stop, well unless you want me to start bitching about by crazy neighbor and all the miss truths she is telling the world as fact!

Yeah, give the rest of us something to laugh at....

Heard today of a worrying incident. guy we know up at Whitecliffs (Selwyn Council) has had EQC and insurance co agree house is a writeoff - EQC have even paid him out.
Had a visit from Council staff - presumably to examine prior to issuing a demolition consent - Council official says "we'll let you repair that". As I understood it the original reason for writing it off it was because there was no way it could be brought up to current code....

Does this infer that the councils won't insist on compliance with current code ?
If so this opens a massive can of worms...reinsurance issues for a start.
To the best of my knowledge all the engineers reporting in Canty are working on the basis that work done has to meet current code.

The shit has only just started to fly.

As soon as you open a house up it must be brought up to todays specs, eg: I'm working on a leaking home, some decent rot her and there, to repair the windows have to come out... but they are not alowed back in as single glazing is not alowed, eg: cladding is to be removed, all insulation has to be replaced with todays specs, eg: butanole membrain roofing needs replacing due to rusted fixings, roof must now be to todays specs that is re pitched to todays specs and noged out at 400crs... the list goes on and all due to a few leaks, owners are forced into massive expensives, the place I am doing at the mo is a 200k re build, at the end it will be worth no more than it was when I started.

So yes any work done to quake damage means if opened up it will have to meet todays specs even if it is undamaged... big bucks.

Media attention has switched dramatically from the woes of Christchurch earthquake victims to the Pike Mine disaster!

The worst part of these disasters appears to me to be the inane lust for exposing other peoples misery!

I think extreme media are worse than the actual cause!

I think we are lucky that being a small country means that our media people generally can identify witrh those involved in disasters and so we do treat our own with more sensitivity than sensationalism.

Well, I've had an information pack from EQC explaining that we are living in one of the seriously munted land areas, so no work on repairing or rebuilding houses is going to happen until it's been assessed, repaired etc. So apparently once the land issues are sorted out, something will happen about the house sometime between Aug 2011 and Aug 2013.

    Fucking yay.

And still no money for a new TV either.

well hey, you chose to live in a land filled swamp and at least ya house is very much livable even if theres nothing holding the floor up (take monthely measurments of the gap between the floor and bottom plate to be sure the floor sinks no more)
Ya TV, ohh shit aye 3 teens and no telly
Try this worked for me and altho the cheque came a 3rd under actuall replacment... ring the 0800 ask who is the person in Welly thats looking after your claim, ring the 04 number and ask for 'fast track' then for the name you were given, leave a message as they will not answer but do get back to ya withen an hour or so.
Then go put a TV on the Visa like I did and wait for the cheque.
    cheers DD

No landfill under our house, the section was surveyed in 1925 and the land has been there 100+ years before the house was built, which is probably why we're still living in it. Our back fence is start of the landfilled swamp where some of the houses have broken in half. No need to measure how much the floor is sinking, when I walked in from the garage after being away in Nelson I could see that the gaps had got bigger from the aftershocks while we were away

All good, 30mths interest free at Harvey Norman this weekend, plenty of time for a cheque from EQC to turn up.
