standing under a 3 story scafold wraped around a block of leaking homes, kinda helped with getting the last piece of roton cladding off, very sureal watching all the parked cars dancing full on, just like the movies.
Only a 5 but more shit on the deck at home than there was with the 7.1 I asume its all about the direction and style, depth of the quake as in we have all noticed how some go forward/back, left/right or round n round, ie this time the TV went backwards.

Was at 2nd floor of CPIT building at that time. I wonder how people felt it at 6th floor!

Snap! I had just lowered my pants and took my seat to commence my performance on our 1st floor dunny when it hit. Thought initially it was just someone banging on the door being funny but then noticed the floor and walls moving so quickly cancelled my performance, raised my tweeds and got out. I remember thinking there was no way I was going to die with my pants around my ankles.

Was on the pit wall at Ruapuna - just hung on & rode it out - I swear the wall was doing the conga !!! Rattled the windows in the tower and Crawford's workshop.
No one on track noticed it....

I was opening the garage doors at the precise time the quake hit. My first thought was the doors had jammed and came off. It was a big jolt.

I on the other hand ... stayed close to the fridge (to ensure the safety of the beer [prioritys])

dont think i would want a rebuilt home on "fixed" land, absolutly no resale value, the lucky ones are the few who get land and house paid out, wont be market value pre quake i bet though

Agreed - Imagine being a property owner in Bexley now, you're stuck there until you either die or can afford to buy elsewhere and stick tenants in your Bexley house...
IMO you'd be dead lucky to sell it...ever.
And yes, i do know people in just this situation and this is just what they're facing.
All very well for a Minister with a house in Fendalton to say the land will be so good after rectification work it will become desirable - what else can he say ?
