Someone please tell me that looting is a separate, more serious offensive than just straight burglary. That these fuckers will have their names, addresses and photos published, before been given a public flogging, instead of the usual slap on the wrist they normally get.

Did any of the looters from the last earthquake get caught, and did they get a decent sentence?

There's no doubt that the justice outcome will be pathetic. Their lawyers will no doubt claim that they were acting out of character when under extreme stress, blah, blah...

I don't agree with extreme vigilante justice, but I do hope for the maximum level of naming and shaming - names and photos published widely, perhaps bring back a form of the public stocks.

There's a National State of Emergency at the moment, not to mention the State of Emergency in Christchurch itself. Usually looters are dealt with more severely in those cases. Although we are talking about NZ's pathetically PC Justice (yeah whatever) System.

Maybe people should volunteer to go down there and form Neighbourhood Watch type groups to look after shit for those whose homes etc got trashed. Guard against thieving shitbags.

That should be treated as attempted murder. I know that's OTT but the loss of phone means loss of 111. Govt is taking the shit serious when taking the stick to the telcos so lets see the justice system do the same.
Other looting should be punished ot the same levle cause of the affect it has on the victims

Usually, in a state of emergency, looters can be shot on sight. Too fucking easy as far as I am concerned. Name them, shame them then throw them to those poor people who spent a night in Hagley Park while their houses were being robbed.

But, as so rightly said elsewhere, it will be because of the 'stress' of the quake. Bullshit, these people are scum. Yep, make looting an offence with tougher sentances (knowing our fucking PC poliies, a tougher offence will be a slap with a dry bus ticket...oh hang on....risk of paper cut, make it slightly damp then)
