I want to send some reasonably high value computer hardware within NZ, so what courier companies would you guys recommend that are reasonably priced?
The items are fragile and I would prefer a "track and trace" system so the buyer can't accuse me of failing to deliver the goods.

Fliways are the only company that will carry enough insurance to replace it if it gets wrecked in transit.
Is this personal stuff or work stuff, because Fliways generally do corporate stuff mostly?

A couple of years ago we sent a computer server thing via flyways. It turned up wet, and they refused liability and wouldn't pay up. The cost of recovering the money through court + the lost time involved during a very busy project meant we didn't bother but I take every opportunity to tell people that they suck. I'd rather felch a grasshopper than use them again.

That was kind of my point, but they are the only company that carries insurance for properly expensive stuff. Most ordinary companies don't carry any at all. I to have had Fliways bend and break stuff. The "Best" one was an IBM x3850 that arrived bent in two planes and twisted longitudinally. The fight to get it replaced wasn't worth it, particularly as I simply created a virtual server to replace the broken physical.

Always always carry your own insurance for anything you give a damn about. This is why we get so many threads "XX company transported my new bike and broke it"
Even if the companies admit liability (which seems unlikely), they are limited to NZ$1500 per package. And you can bet your cat's arse that's all they'll pay.
They almost all have tracking facilities on their websites (couriers, not carriers)

The items are only worth around $400 - but that's 3 weeks pay for me so it's a lot of money for me.
