Cleaning a smell out of helmet

I just rinse my helmet out under the shower seems to keep it fresh as

I have a spair HJC motorbike helmet ages agonwhen it was rand new and in its box someone with oot my permission let someone else use it (who sha'll re name name less)

I wasn't there at the time.After the person had used it the helmet completly sinks badly of BO I actually felt like chucking the helmet away. Has anyone had this problem before if so how did they get the smell out.

It would be soo helpful to know.

I have used 'Muc Off' aerosol spray foam since the liners for my helmet are not removable. Just pray the foam in, and then massage the foam into the lining fabric, then wipe out with a cloth after a few minutes and leave to dry. Had to do it twice, but gave a good result.

Unsure about the cleaning side of things, but a way to keep your helmet smelling fresher for longer is to never let your gloves anywhere near the lining. They really add to the problem.

I'm almost sure Muc Off do a helmet interior cleaner too, been impressed with their products so far but must confess I haven't as yet found the need to clean the interior of any of my helmets so..

I always shove my gloves into my helmet and have never had a problem (yet...)

Maybe some Oust air freshener spray might be the goods.

A sprinkle of laundry detergent in warm water.
Rub in, rinse off and leave in the sun to dry.
Persil fresh....

Thanks everyone for all these surgestions in cleaning the bad yuk smell out of the helmet such a pitty this happened to the helmet.

I had a friend who was always complaining about the smell in her helmet. Her husband admitted during a drunken bike rally confession that he was farting in it every morning before he went to work. Sometimes he even used to put fairy liquid around the bottom of it when he put it back on the work top, to keep the smell in.

I think she just had to live with the smell - must have been love !

I simply just remove the inner linner and wash in washing machine then put back into helmet, smell gone!
