Is it just me or are there a lot of flies around this summer?

They seem to be getting everywhere! Pricks! Even more now after last weeks shaking.

Does anyone use those automatic spray things that hang on a wall? I've tried almost all the brands of fly spray on the shelves at the local supermarket but none of them work. It's like the flies can sense the stuff and just go and hide somewhere

What are you guys doing to keep them outta the house? Or do you just put up with them?

Also any ideas to keep them away while having a BBQ?

We have an automatic expra from Mitre 10 and it seems to do the trick quite well.
The can it came with was average at best but the refill can we bought sent em packing. not sure if they loose there effectiveness with age but the fresh can was great.
I think the placement of them is quite important too.

I have a couple of raid automatic dispensers (bought back when they were still Robocan). The refills seem to be the cheapest from M10. They've now got an outdoor model that fires upwards every 30 seconds. It seems to work pretty well unless it's breezy.

I find that with my trusty fly swat, if I kill any fly immediately after it comes inside, the lack of presence of flies and zero tolerance seems to keep others away.

No fly wants to be in hostile air space.

Dont leave pet food or rubbish and plates lying around.

Meaty smelling homes are magnets as are outside rubbish bins poorly sited, unsealed lids or heating the rubbish in the sun.

Keep women on rag week away.. helps..
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

    We use one of these:

It seems to work - the flies remind us when the can has run out, and not longer after we replace it they disappear again.

We run a Raid and also a Mortein "robocan" thingy at each end of the house. One refill will last all summer and you can buy outdoor refills if you are having a bbq.

Mitre 10 has a "no brand" brand of refill available.

Have seen sod all of them this year apart from those who spread themselves on my visor.

Yeah ... this summer my visor gets covered in dead bug crap ... worse than usual ... after about 50ks I can't see any more ... and have to stop to clean it

I refuse to have anything in the house that automatically sprays chemicals into the air ... dunno what they are going to do to you ... the trusty fly swat comes in useful.

I wasn't too keen on having a "robo can" thing, but ended up getting one as the flies were so bad this year. They work really well, but you do have to wonder about the stuff that comes out of them...

Supposed to be natural pyrethrims or what ever they call that stuff.
I have them and they work pretty good.....struggling at the moment though...too many flies.

    Flies

We had some, but sent them to CHCH to help with the cleanup down there, every little bit helps as they say

Seriously though, the raid dispenser (robocan) thing seems to work pretty well

I have a Mortein one. Seems to work pretty well. I only turn it on when the flies are about, so when they do come in they get a surprise.
