I don't recommend drilling half a dozen 10 mm holes around the existing outlet hole. Past experience doing this years ago on a Kawa 750 resulted in it indeed being louder but it sounded like a pack of homos lined up behind the bike farting. Homos I believe fart deeper than the rest of us due to their outlets being unnaturally enlarged.
But back to your pipes.
Check the net for info re hacking your existing ones.

Your local bike shop can order you a pair of 'Dunstal' mufflers - 2 styles available (see picture). They should be no more than $120 each and come with collars to allow the mufflers to be fitted over 3 different sized headers. Yes they are a Asian knock off but they are surprisingly good for the price - steel is a decent weight and chrome is very good.
I've used both styles - the top style with a more open end has a straight through perforated core that may be removed for packing or 'tuning'. Note these are fairly rowdy as the packing supplied is actually a collection of many old Asian men's belly button lint. Consequently it lasts about one week! Repack with some decent stuff ($20 a pack).
The lower style in the picture is a very nice looking reverse cone and would be louder than your stockers but I'd consider it a good 'touring' pipe - your neighbours will not mind this pipe. These have a chamber core that cannot be modified.
Both may require a custom mounting bracket or something depending on your ride but are good pipes for the price.
