State of SH5 - Napier to Taupo (March 2011)

if your thinking of riding this road for fun - dont bother. In fact unless you have to ride the road - avoid it. There are road works every few KM and the rest of the road is bumpy and terrible...

Well the alternate fun route is much longer...Napier -Wairoa-Gisborne-east cape-Whakatane-Rotorua - Taupo. Some great riding to be had, but a bit longer route.

Did the road a week ago. Yes, there is roadworks but when you compare that to the part that is not roadwork it is nutin. Just adjust your riding. Still only takes 1 1/2 hour when you cruize and one hour if in a hurry.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

So what's new? It's always bumpy ... especially at higher speds on a lighter bike ...

And what roads in GodZone don't periodically have road works? Was through the Buller Gorge two weeks ago - it was covered in pea metal and heaps of road works ...

You have to love the potholes in the area that was resealed at the end of January! You could lose half a B-train in them....quality control...there is none.
