The items are only worth around $400 - but that's 3 weeks pay for me so it's a lot of money for me.

All courier companies insure up to $1500 (i think - make sure you check. there are exceptions). CourierPost or NZ Couriers should be ok for this unless it is a "large" item.

Make sure you package it properly. Ie. sturdy box + filler + bubble wrap. Take photos of the unpackaged item(s) with the packaging in the same shot (or next shot). Package the item in bubble wrap - take a photo. Package the bubble wrap in a box with some filler - take a photo. Send "signature required".

Packaging is important if it comes to a claim.

We use post haste at work.
They have been pretty good. Very little damage and they have a good tracking system.
Pretty much always get stuff to the client on time.

If you are shipping to an RD address be aware most courier companies consider it 'delivered' when it reached the rural posties. Then it is no longer in that couriers control.

Try to ship to a commercial address if possible, they get priority and usually there is always someone there to receive the package.

I send aircraft components, cockpit instruments mainly, as well as gyros, all over the country using NZ Couriers and NZ Post. No issues at all. Bigger items Mainfreight. Ensure the components are well boxed, sealed in bags and cushioned as per Usarka instructions.

If you are shipping to an RD address be aware most courier companies consider it 'delivered' when it reached the rural posties. Then it is no longer in that couriers control.

That's what they'll tell you - but you have contracted them to deliver the item to the specified address. The fact that they subcontract to Coural who do all the rural deliveries should not be an issue.

The issue usually becomes one of proof because rural delivery dudes are unable to get a signature.

every courier company will have those that have had bad experiences.
Those same companies will have those that swear by them.

If you package it well, address it clearly and get a signature required ticket, that is about the best you can do.

Oh - righto then.

How big is it? Are we talking courier or trucking company required?

It's not big or heavy - just a motherboard, processor, RAM and 2 video cards.

I use Fastways and Poste Haste, have done for the last 15yrs, only ever had one parcel go missing, claimed the shipment and they paid out, about $750.00, as others have said it comes down to the packaging. Through Poste Haste we ship decorative glass have done over the last two years, haven't had a breakage yet, but we crate the product and pack well.

Fliways are the only company that will carry enough insurance to replace it if it gets wrecked in transit.

Is this personal stuff or work stuff, because Fliways generally do corporate stuff mostly?

I tend to package well (remembering the egg drop from school). But as mentioned all courier companies will have the good n the bad. But I must say Fliways do appear to go out of their way & make a special effort to guarantee our packages get damaged. Tho in their defense it does appear its the Auckland lot that like to give the products their "special attention"

I second that. The only reason we use Fliways at work is because they are the only company which can ensure delivery of our products (large items and big volumes), door to door, the next day almost anywhere in NZ. But boy, a lot of it gets damaged.

We've never had a problem with Fliways; but we wanted one courier that we could use for everything. We ended up using CourierPost. Fingers crossed, it is the only courier company we have ever used that wasn't written off a delivery.

We also have our own "Marine Cargo Insurance". We don't ever do marine shipments - but the policy covers all our goods in transit anywhere in NZ, via any means. So we don't rely on the couriers insurance - we have our own. I would highly recommend this to anyone who regularly couriers goods of high value.
