Yer i can remember that too but that was when i was at my first job.
Took a bit of getting used to as you had to pick up and say working but now and then i would forget and just pick up and dial my number then put the phone to my ear to hear someone screaming GET OFF THE FUCKING PHONE.![]()
winding up stucky since ages ago
Yeah, I remember having to pick up the handpiece and say, "Working?" but then you'd crank the handle once to get the operator who would say, "Number please!"
The old crank generators were often taken to school and newbies would be told to "Hold these wires"...
Party lines were great weren't they? You'd listen for your ring.
You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.
Shorai Powersports batteries are very trick!
I still listen for my ring...it's an early warning system.![]()
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
I remember when an uncle came to visit from Endinburgh and the phone rang. Sort-long so for the neighbours and not us, when no one got up he asked if anyone was going to answer it and when we said no there was a noticeable pause and then he asked. How did we know????
Still cracks me up after all these years
I remember when it took longer to go out, catch the horse to get it ready in the dray for a 5mile trip up the road than it does to fly from Wellington to Christchurch!
That was just to get ready to go! .... there was not much petrol due to the 2nd world war, so the truck was only used to take the milk to the factory every day.
Old is a state of mind and my mind is in quite a state as some of you might know!![]()
you could fill up your car without cringing.
You're slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter. I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.
you got your milk and bread delivered for a few cents
