As for Deano, I'm glad he learnt how to get out of the way, with or without my help!!!!!!!!!!! What is the general cost of a race meeting (excluding any accidents)? I heard I can expect to go through loads of tyres, like 3 rears and 2 fronts???????????? That cost alone scared the shit out of me.

At a club meet with the bike set up a pair of tyres should last you the day.

Craig Sherriffs or Sloan will sell you decent used tyres but you'll likely need a couple sets of them per meeting.

That's your biggest expense, but with a bike as trick as this, servicing is CRUCIAL. Don't skimp and it'll go forever, try cutting corners and learn what a titanium valve can do to the top of a piston. If you are mechanically inclined that servicing is pretty inexpensive considering the horsepower it produces, in the region of 200 REAL ponies at the rear tread. This bike is either Robbie Bugdens '07 winning bike, or Strouds runner up. You know it's a good one, Spud takes good care of his toys so it will be ready to go.

Hell no, it's no where near as bad as people think. Sure at the National's or high profile street meets you'd spend a bit to be up the front (same as any class) but if you're smart you'll do what Stroudy does: set the bike up on used tyres, after all that's what you are running 2/3rd's of the race on and just save your new rubber for the races. 1 x front and 2 x rears will easily get the job done during a National's weekend with some used rubber for practice. 15laps isn't that much work, unless you are scratching for 10th's right at the pointy end.

The Winter series is a good opportunity to use the used rubber you've accumulated doing the National's. All depends how serious you want to take it: how important is half a second to you? Are you good enough to find it?

The rest of the bike: 5W-50 full synthetic oil and filter (I've got a couple spare for the buyer) every 2 race/track days and she's sound as a pound. I'm also running Water Wetter for added insurance and tape up the radiator on cold days for healthy temp's as per Ray's instructions.

The frame was actually Craig Shirriffs before he went all squiffy on the Honda, then Ray bolted in one of Robbies engines and used the bike for a couple of meetings himself, before I bought it. I've got some documentation from Ray listing spec's, history etc for the buyer.

I didn't get on with the out of the box WP suspension as fitted for the sale (Ray runs Dunlops, I run Pirelli's) and eventually opted for some of Dr Bob's finest (same as Stroudy's K7 setup on Pirelli's) which absolutely transformed the bike.

I'm a motorcycle technician (grease monkey) by trade and I've worked for a British Supersport Team in the past and race prepared my own machines and many others for years, so when you say 'servicing', how often do I need to replace valves, seats, cotters etc to keep it reliable?????

If they are yoshi titanium ones, then 1500k's is the recommended replacement interval, (only from memory) on my K6 built to similar spec as this bike.

Spud, you got the guff on how often ya gotta do the K7?

Sloan had Strouds runner up and pretty sure its still for sale on trademe.

Yep, pretty much on the money mate, 1200-1500km's is about the range mentioned. He said you can push it out but you do risk cracking the seat area on the valves.

I haven't got the info in front of me but from memory Robbie used the engine for 3 meetings. Ray rebuilt it and did about 3 meetings himself then freshened it up before onselling to me. I've done 4 race meetings and maybe 5(?) test days.

I can send a copy of the original spec's/history I received from Ray if required.

With mine I was going to chuck standard valves back in and lower the rev limit back to standard, I don't think I ever used the over rev available. But that'd need some looking into to ensure they could handle the faster closing force, of the sharper cam profile.

Nope Sloan had Strouds K7, Dean Holland brought it from sloan and then sold it on trade me for a crazy low price of $10500, bloody cheap for a bike like that.

What was the over rev on the K5/6 Drew? On my old HRC 'blade all the HRC gubbins/ECU etc bumped up the redline by 1250rpm, but on this I was suprised it's only 250rpm higher. No mention of Yoshi valves (not sure they were allowed on 07/8?) so they could be the OEM jobbies with Yoshi retainers/collets etc). Certainly makes things simpler/cheaper and it's not like it lacks for grunt.

Interesting that more mods are allowed now so there is room to play with it if someone was so inclined (

) or just enjoy what is already a wicked bike. As it is it'll run on fine straight premium no need for 98 if you are playing at Teretonga (no 98 available)

Andrew Strouds old mechanic/mate Ian has got Andrews old full monty K3/4 superbike with all the yoshi gear intact and uses it on the road! Even with the monster cams etc it had done 30000km's trouble free, great testament to Ray's engineering, 'cos Ian wasn't shy about giving it a hiding. Don't think I haven't thought about it with this........

I've pretty much nana'd it while I was struggling with the WP suspenders so there's plenty of miles in it yet.
