Had a look at the website (http://www.tt2000.org/) earlier today, and noticed they have the dates up (but nothing in detail on the route yet). Mark 26-27 February in your calendars

Looks like there is no overnight stop (ie, stop when you wish), route goes from Dunedin to Christchurch (ie, not starting and finishing in Chch. Flyers aren't listed yet, but apparently 24, totalling an extra 1000km (so, Jantar, are you? )

From a blurred map on the route page, its Dunedin > Waikawa > Riverton > Tuataupere > Milford Sound > Alexandra > Palmerston > Oamaru > Omarama > Haast > Hokitika > Christchurch. Mapsource says about 2043km, but we have to wait for the proper details.

Just had a mad thought... Doing the basic TT2000 plus ALL flyers seems possible this year

I think I'm leaning that way....for 6000Kms in a week, once we add a couple of nice pootles on the way to and from.

Start on Saturday the last couple of years was between 6 and 8am. Ie, you have to start between then. Arrive after that, you just missed out

The way I see it, its 1 day to travel Auckland to Wellington (or vv). Two days for the South Island (or 1 for Chch/Dunedin). So therefore, if I left Monday morning for Auckland, I'd be at work Wednesday. Probably need the bike serviced, then leave Friday morning to be in Invercargill Sunday night (club night ).

Maybe he makes me fly back I guess... hope not. Spend the week riding the South Island and probably get a service (oh, and some work on the side, but ideally a proper holiday). Ask your IT about working remotely... I am the IT

Finished the 2010 TT2000 on the Sunday and was sore enough to say I didn't need to do another one - until the Tuesday after, when the (possible) 2011 event seemed like a damn good idea...
It's pencilled in.

The 2011 TT200 dates clash with the annual goldfields cavalcade. I always do the cavalcade as back-up for my wife, so unfortuantely I've just had to break the news to her that she'll be starting it alone this year and I'll join her mid week.

Full details have been put on the website now. Spiffy looking, but can't browse on phone (bit disappointing, but it does look very flash )

Key differences to previous years:

• no mandatory Sat night checkpoint - you start at 6:00am on Saturday and finish between 6:00-10:00pm on Sunday. What you do in between is up to you.
• no formal scrutineering at the finish which detracts from having a social gathering - the scrutineering takes place electronically after you get home
• $40 pre-registration when booking on website (still need to pre-register)

Pics from 2010 are also up... got a lot of reading ahead, not to mention all the route planning. Photos are also now more specific, so for those using GPS, take extra care when plotting stops.

edit: doesn't look like Flyers Vol 2 is up yet... must take mucho work to prepare all this

You bugger, thought no-one else would be crazy enough to try for it... Have to do the sums re route, gas availability etc and see whats possible. 3000km in 40 hours sounds insane even to 1 or 2 GC'ers I have talked to, and I'm not using a busa. Using a naked supermoto

Again, a little annoyingly, I don't see many flyers near the end of the route, which makes route and time planning more crucial. Don't want to have diamond in the bag and arrive at 10.15pm

I know all those roads that the flyers are on.
Somehow, I don't think I'll try for diamond, gold will be enough. I also know what fuel availablity is on those long overnight sections if diamond was to be attempted, and it aint good.

Anyway I also paid up tonight. So I guess I'd better give it a go.
