    Another "first bike input" thread

So I'm basically looking for the best deal in KM's the bike has done and also performance. I have a 3kish budget and have been looking at mainly GPX, CBR, and Suzuki Across.

Can anyone comment on the following price of these bikes and whether or not it is a good deal
    **GSXR http://www.motorcycletrader.co.nz/Vi...989/40715.aspx
    **CBR http://www.motorcycletrader.co.nz/Vi...987/42261.aspx
    **Across http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-356601281.htm

Im more or less trying to get a feel for what is a good deal and what is not.

Also I have a 125cc auto scooter at current. I have a car license and I sat my basic handling on a 125 bike with gears. Do you think I would manage a 3 hour trip on a bike with gears after riding an auto scooter for 8 months?

First of all, your suppose to have a 6L for a bike over 50cc .. But you will find riding a proper bike is easier than it looks, I would recommend riding it around town for a couple of weeks before your 3 hour trip unless its a must, you will find your wrists and ankles will fatigue often, I have a CBR250 MC19, has around 13,000km and would for sure out perform any late model 250's, I rode it from Dunedin to Blenheim over two days, and rode back in a day

have a look, if you are interested let me know via PM, I could arrange something with you say ill pay half the transport fee or something, always happy to see new people on bikes.

Hey there , cheers for your reply. I have my motorbike restricted license, I was just saying that since I've been driving manual cars for a while whether people thought I may manage to re-pick up the whole gears thing on a bike.

Yeah the reason that I was asking about a 3 hour/ish trip is that bikes in Wellington are generally quite expensive compared to bikes elsewhere. For that reason I was wondering if a long trip would be easy / hard.

That is a very nice bike and definitely the sort of thing I'd be looking at buying, however unfortunately it's a little bit out of my price range, thanks though

Do you have much longer left on your license?

There ya go, click buy now on that puppy, be warned though these bikes may out perform late model 250's, but sadly they are getting very long in the tooth and may not have the reliability of one. I say "may" as they were very well engineered and there are some fine examples still kicking about, it's just hard to know what you're buying.

This looks good too, just depends on where you're located but the twin in these suckers is a great engine.

Oh and if you're into naked bikes, I'll sell ya mine for 3500, its black with gold forks and has done 27000ks, well maintained with a brand spanking new Pirelli on the back.

Cheers for the reply but why is it so expensive compared to a bike such as this http://www.motorcycletrader.co.nz/Vi...989/40715.aspx practically the same but with much lower k's..

Is your bike the Hyosung comet?

If you have been driving a manual car you should understand the relationship between the engine revs and gearing, ie an apreciation of engine braking / which gear works better for acceleration or controlling speed. The transition to two wheels rather than 4 should be pretty straight forward.

As to the 3 hr or so trip, just give yourself a bit of extra time. Take time out, so that you can stop and get off for a leg stretch and think about something different for a bit. Won't be long and you'll be able to do the same trip in one sitting.
Plenty of folks here do 1000km or more in a day on a regular basis (admittedly it is ussually on a bigger bike).

Is your bike the Hyosung comet?
    Yup the Naked one. GORGEOUS!

I don't trust such old bikes having so low k's. Either they've never been ridden (possible), been wound back when entering NZ (plausible)... I went to check that bike on carjam but they want you to log in nowadays...

Either way though if they've been around the clock and treated well the older bikes seem to keep on going, just be weary of what you are buying.

Also remember that your 250 period need not be on a bike that is faster than say a Ninja 250 or a Hyosung (as the GSX and CBR's etc are), I've had great fun on my Hyo, took it to the track twice, even go my knee down on it (good times!).
Great fun and experience can be had, I find the hyo good as its a big bike (250 wise) and takes a bit of man handling to get moving.
