    hey Glenn..

in short, yes it would be "competetive" in F3 in my opinion.
All of the 1989 onwards 400's are pretty much on enough of a level for anyone to start out on, learn alot from, and even expect some top placings on as time goes by.

only hard thing with that machine is the 18" rear, now its not a problem for starting out, as you can get sticky GPR70SP's and BT090's on there and for a good price. However the only problem that would come is if you decided you wanted to take out the NZF3 title or the likes, wanted to up your game and run slicks/wets, well then you really need the 17" rear rim on the 400's to get full tyre availability..

Otherwise, purchase, strip down all lighting, stuff an aftermarket muffler only on it.

    and keep chainging the oil!

That's not the right attitude, you'll be cleaning up straight away, you've left me for dead before

nah dude MC22 wont work, may bolt in but is only at most 4" rim

you need on the 400's a 3.5" front, and 4.5" rear rims
to take 120's on front, and 150's/160's on rear (pref 150 but 160 if your favourite tyre only comes in that size, as thats the size which is more common as mid nighteys 600's used them on 5" rims)

by all means consider the bike, it would be good, i personally would if i was starting racing, id be looking for any cheap 400 1989 up is the general year, otherwise pre-that, e.g 1988 VFR400 only had 2.5" front rims and 3.5" rear rims, that pretty much means you are on skinny arse tyres, and more then likly having to be crossply's not radials, far less time/money has been spent in the development of crossplys then radials in the last 20 years... so yeah, FYI.

these are definatly 18"s , but the tread has a funny pattern as if it were a dry track tyre with no centre line to disperse water...can get specs on those tyres if needed

I can get finance thru work, but for that everything has to be legit (L-plate), and they already own my bike and part of my car motor
