    Hp?

Could any body be able to comfirm the true hp of a fully stock 1996 gsf250s bandit, gj77a.
Because i am seeing varying results on the internet ranging between 38hp-45hp.
Also how does this compare to other 250 bikes?

    Thanks

well the new hyosungs have around 30hp at the crank, so about 27 of so at the rear wheel
I know the 1991 cbr250rr's have 46hp at the crank

45hp would be at the crank. So 40 at the rear would be about right.

I think it's 40Hp at the crank, that's what the factory claims.

that sounds more like it, they are slightly restrited motors so they wouldnt be puting out as much juice as a cbr250rr

Pre-94 (or is it 93?) Bandits claim to have 45hp, whereas the post-94 models have 40hp. All at the crank, and probably inflated to boot. Faster than any 'modern' 250 though.

    Sob Sob sob,........

every month or so this subject comes up.

I have spent about 10 years operating dyno's in several countries around the world, and when in NZ, I was doing 250's quite alot.

The internet lies to you, and the claims made by factories are always bolstered to improve sales (and, yes, they are at the crank)

I think I have posted links to actual 250 IL4 runs about 5 times.

To date, no-one as EVER posted a dyno graph of a 250 on this site that I am aware of.

    From memory.

    91 and up CBR250's are around 37PS
    89 and up GSXR250's are around 35PS (bandit's about 32)
    88/89 ZXR250's about 32
    91 and up ZXR250, about 34

I have never personally seen an IL4 250 make more that 37PS.

Exhausts make no difference, no matter what "the internet" says.....or your mate, or your dad.

Oh, and how did honda make substantually more power than others with the later model CBR's........they revved to almost 20K

I found this with one google about 6 months ago......can any one find one with substantually more????????

"My mate said", or "I know a guy" does not count.

Thanks, im only wondering because some bandits arre restricted to 40hp (factory rating) and others are saying that after 1994 they stoped making the restricted and only made full hp models after that. so im not to fussed wheather it is putting out what hp, i more am wanting to know if it is a restricted model or not? Thanks ss90, thanks for the comparison between bikes, this may be a stupid question but where do you personally measure the hp output of the bikes when you are doing the dyno runs in nz (crank or rear wheel) and what is the hp difference normally between the two measurements on a 250?

in '95 the bandit(v) was unrestricted with a factory claimed 45hp. one of the best performing 250s i've ridden. i believe they were variable valve timing models which may explain it.....

If you add a Yoshimura can from a 2001 GSXR 750, iridium spark-plugs, K&N air filter but use really light weight oil on the K&N (like sewing machine oil), Mobil fully synthetic engine oil and go up one on the front sprocket you can get 52 rear wheel HP out of the Bandit on a dyno.

Based on running the bike in a temperature controlled room (19 degrees) with relative humidity of 67%.

A serious Hoy-bag eater and in the right hands quite capable of taking on a modern 600 IL4.

True story, I read it on the Internet.

Pretty much any business will have a dyno that reads at the rear wheel.......crank horsepower is for homo's.

Basically, measuring at the crank removes the losses of the transmission,(and chain, and sprockets, and bearings, and tyre), and measuring at the wheel includes all these losses (ie, the amount of power applied to the ground)
