Virgin Racing (car sorry, not what you thought)

    Very excited about this

First car to be reliant on CFD but I wonder how much else is "art to part...."

As some of us play round with the computer and use this stuff ( CFD , CAD , etc )

Have been designing stuff for my old enfield using these methods for a few years now ... So I expect a call from Richard any day now

On a serious note , I really like the way you can optimise parts and hopefully get it right first time

I'm really hoping it starts to come together for them this year, but it's not going so well yet. The Technical Director of Virgin, Nick Wirth, ran Simtek on an absolute shoestring and managed to create cars that qualified between '93 and '95. He started off as an aerodynamicist so it's interesting that he's gone down the CFD route instead of wind tunnels. He made massive improvements to the ALMS Acura with CFD and if anyone can make it work it's him, but I reckon he's one of those guys doomed to be on the leading edge of a technology without ever getting any benefit.

Wait for a bit Stephen and then start hitting up the top teams when they go down the CFD route. If Virgin are still a team in 2013 I'd be surprised.

If I can get two interviews at BAR (rip), you'd have no trouble making the technical team for any F1 outfit.

What for? Would be chaos working for an F1 team.

    I don't think so Tim.

Had 2 interviews at the BAR , one was messy , the other I fined 20 quid and bound to keep the peace

    Stephen

CFD , its not a bad tool but its in its infancy ( a great guide but,,,)

so if these people are using this to refine a car , think of the market advantage they will have ,,,

    Good call I reckon
