Need a new lid but on a budget?

Bit of advise here my lovelies.

I need a new lid but can only stretch to $300 at the moment. I know that's not a lot for this piece of vital kit but that's the way it is.

Any advice on what is out there and what to look for? I'm after a bog standard type full face lid, nothing to spacy but it has to be a decent quality with linings that will last longer than the present one of mine.

Any and all greatfully received as always

I learnt about them SHARPs ratings on this site (new gear - sticky), then I saw Cycletreads had 5 star Shark helmets on special from 349 down to 199 dollars.
    Well rated helmets.

A week or so ago someone had a virtually unused, mint nick, XR1000 Shoei for $200, was a size Large tho....or id have bought it asap.

Keep your eyes open for the specials - hopefully you can afford to be patient and wait for that bargain helmet to pop up?

Yeah, I am in no major rush mate but just nice to know what are deemed decent lids for the money, not too up on that you see.

    Thanks for that info, appreciated

Cycletreads up in Takapuna are always good for gear at great prices, my Oxford helmet only set me back about $100 from them. Best to try on heaps of different helmets though, find the one that fits your head's 'shape' best - or else you'll get mean headaches after only a short ride...

I'm sure there is a 5 star Shark helmet, just not for that price from Cycletreads

Here are the Shark helmets that are rated on the SHARP website:

I'm tempted to get one now, my current helmet is from that Cnell shop, isn't even SHARP rated.

$199 for S650 helmet and $109 for a dark visor.

Would it be worth getting a dark visor? At the moment I just wear sunnies if it gets too bright.

Just got my Wife an S650, awesome bang for buck at $199.

Yes a Dark visor is an essential as far as I'm concerned, far more comfy for longer rides than wearing sunnies under your helmet.

    Hey Max,

Got told Saturday that Cycletreads will be having a sale again for Queens birthday, I put off buying my daughters new boots until then! go along might find a bargain and they certainly have a good selection.

You can pick up an arf decent helmet like a basic HJC for $150ish. Just a bit heavier than the more expensive options in order to make a decent shell from less expensive materials.
