Had mine done last Friday - it is an arse afterwards
Had all 4 out in one go, general anaesthetic - 1st didn't work, 2nd lights out. Woke up in chair, all over, stood up, fell down, on face. Went straight to hospital, 3 days later allowed out after finally stopping trying to throw up.
I shouldn't have waited till it hurt so bad to get the teeth out. The actual extraction was painless. The shitty anaesthetic caused all the problems. Two previous patients had minor versions of what got me.
Getting them out is a lot less trouble than the damned teeth can be.
I had all 4 out last year at Bowen hospital under general anaesthetic. I stayed pretty doped up on codeine for the week afetrwards but it wasn't too bad... I think.
Went to the dentist about 15 yrs ago and he told me my wisdoms are "coming through", recommended I get them out giving me the option of waiting another 12 months...I got them out 4 weeks later! I remember asking the same question you have about the pain, etc and some people told me that there can be some horrendous bruising as well. I didn't experience any pain or bruising but I know of some peeps who had completely the opposite experience.Originally Posted by Suney
As far as the pricing, can't remember what it cost me back then, but when has the dentist EVER been cheap??![]()
Now open nice and wide...![]()
First two went while I was still in college...... I honestly can't remember the event or any probs afterwards....... second two went a couple of years later, local and a bit of NOS (not enought to put me under just enough that I didn't care what the Dentist was doing). Had a root removed late last year.... local only. The extractions were all painless...... but the next couple of days can be a bit miserable.
Good luck

While we're on the subject:
Anyone had root canal, and lived to tell the tale? I grew up under the impression that it was the single most painful dental experiance you could endure. I had visions of 6 orderlies holding down struggling patients while the maniacal dentist excavated the root!
Went to the dentist a few years back, had what I thought was a filling and it turned out to be root canal! It's actually rather nice, like having a deep itch scratched. I guess it depends on the accuracy of your local anaesthetic.
I hate dentists though. When I first got to NZ, on my entry level job I had to pay thousands in dental fees after I went once and they found I needed quite a few fillings. It annoyes the crap out of me, I have what I call good oral hygiene but I still get caries!
So I haven't been for quite a while, and I find it's a whole lot cheaper that way.![]()
I had 3 wisdom teeth out at once about 25yrs ago, still have one left - but one was stuborn and the dentist said he couldn't give me anymore painkiller,I'd had the max,he wanted to know if he should give up or carry on....''go for it mate'' I said.He put his knee on my chest and hauled the sucker out, kinda put me over the pain threshold into another world.
Have a listen to that Alice Cooper track on Billion Dollar Babies - ''Aching to Get You'' I think to put you into the mood.

My wisdom teeth story is pretty much like Crashe's. The soreness afterwards was nothing compared to the pain before.
Had a root canal done, too. No pain during or after, but BAD pain before...
