What is the best bike to get on a budget?

Hey guys, just want to get some info about bike choice.

Just a poor student here. No money to get a bike exclusively for bucket racing so what I want to do is buy a tatty bike that I can use as a road legal bucket racer. What I'm thinking is just don it with good GPRa12/ Bt090, modify the pegs for more lean clearance and take it from there. Make it a ride it there, ride it back kind of thing. My question is what road bike should I get that provides a good foundation to race and modify? Does anyone here have anything like this I could buy?

Appreciate feedback on the FXR150 and CBR125R in particular as these are the only good 4 stroke choices I am aware of.

It's not somehow possible to enter a MC22 or a ZXR250 is it?

My weight is 74kg.

I have a spare FXR150 that I am going to be keeping completely road legal but also as a bucket (this is the plan for now). It is very easy to remove the road kit and bolt on crash protection as needed. However the bikes themselves cost a fair bit. At least I can say that it takes 5 minutes to remove the unnecessary road kit for racing

There's a couple of GL 145's that are doing quite well. Old, but nothing seems to go wrong.

Str8 Jacket commutes and races an FXR. Not sure I'd be keen on the ride there ride back though. You can render a bike quite unrideable in the smallest crash, usually either a footpeg or clip on missing.
I't possible to ride a bike with one of the brakes missing but no gears or no throttle is a challenge I wouldn't be that keen to take on.

A Cbr125 is a good choice. I agree with Henk that a crash would leave you up the creek without the ...

Another option for bucket racing is see if anyone in your part of the woods has a spare bike they can lend you for racing and you maintain it and pay for it's life juices, until you can get your own bike sorted. This is what I have done with my spare ones, which has been a great way for people to start until they have sorted out their own bucket.

Yeah, that one came 9th in the GP one year too, not a bad effort for a bike that arrived at the track as a road legal commuter!

Fatest way I have seen on a bucket is place it on the ground and stand on it... make sure its not a $2.50 bucket from the wearhouse as they wont take your weight......But seriously there is a club bike at Mt Welly you can have a go on assuming you have leathers etc.
