Easiest and best way to get full licence on a big bike?

Hey guys...kinda a weird question and I have searched and came up with nothing.

I had a CBR250 for around 8 years...sole reason was to get my full license on it. Got my learners straight away then got my restricted about 4 years later....And never got my full although ive had my restricted for the last 4 or 5 years. Ended up selling the road bike and buying a dirt bike without getting my full. I was sooo stupid and really regret it now...

So then my mate sells me his VTR1000 - price was too good to refuse but I cant legally ride it...not that i ever have...

So I need to get my full license really fast and dont need to wait at all having had my restricted for so long....but I need a 250 to sit it on and cant use my bike.

In Auckland whats the best way to do this? Do any training schools do the test using one of their bikes? Can I hire a bike from a bike shop? Or can I use my bike with some sorta concession? Im not too worried about cost....I just want to get out there and ride...legally!

Short answers seeing as you're in a hurry :P Concession, not possible (due timeframe at the very least). Ring a bunch of dealers and see if they have 250s available. In Hamilton a few weeks back it would've cost me 60 bucks for a 250 for half a day.

Your biggest battle will be booking a test in a timely manner. The lead time a month back was about 3 weeks. When they spin you a story about how the system works (for bookings) see if you can sweet talk them into helping you out.

Earn the trust of a bike dealer then borrow one for a test ride?

I was researching defensive driving courses and her name, Tricia, popped up, she has a GN250 and does the basic skills handling course as well as defensive and general rider training. Have not yet found out whether or not she also does other licence tests but would be worth asking

You can book your test online which lets you find a slot somewhere in AKL. Then if no-one will loan you a bike, you could swallow your pride and hire a 250 scooter here to sort it for $60.

Cyclespot on Barrys Point Rd have / had a 250 that couple be loaned for the license test give them a ring.

If I understand correctly, you can simply hire a 250cc bike and go sit your 6F. Simple.

Also if I understand correctly, you don't have a lot of road experience and you just bought a litre bike.

Colemans have 250s that you can hire for 1/2 day to sit your licence. I think it's quite common and I have a mate in the same situation. He's a slack arse too

Thanks for the constructive posts...guess ill hire one from a bike shop, didnt really think they would hire bikes out.

Figured id get flamed for buying the liter bike.....

its OK - the VTR is very forgiving - it only goes as fast as your wrist tells it to. No sudden powerbands etc.
Not a bad bike for a transition. You will love riding it...

Yeah I know what you mean. My LEARNER bike was an 80hp GT650R. It was the bizo for a newbie L-plater as you can imagine.
