GN125 metallic rattle - should I be worried?

    Hi guys.

My little GN125H is coming up to about 1500km so just breaking in. Was serviced about 800km ago or so for the first time.

The other day I noticed a distinct metallic rattle when I rev'd it (from idle). At first I ignored it as I thought it was just the keys rattling but turns out its coming from the bike. It sounds a lot like loose change in the ashtray of my old car would sound, just a bit more 'tinny'. At higher, or constant, revs you dont really notice it - just at those low revs.

Tried to track it down the other day to no avail. Thought it might be a loose bolt and washer somewhere.

Anyone come across this sort of thing before and have any ideas? I dont really want to go back to the shop again if its 'normal'. I mean I am talking a Suzuki GN125H here not a 'real bike' or anything so I sorta expect the odd 'rattle'

Realise impossible to diagnose from a forum post but any advice welcome!

    Cheers

Unfortunately as these bikes are now made by 11 year olds in China, who knows, could be the bolt that was left over has been dropped into the oil filler.

If its brand new, just take it back to the stealer and ask his workshop fella. They will either put your mind at rest or they will, er, ah, yeah.

Could be almost anything...but loose cam chain springs to mind. Ie - tensioner has shit itself.
Prolly best not to ride the thing, until you have a diagnosis/repair. Ring the shop...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I think you are confusing my bike with the newer GN250's. I have heard from a reliable source that the GN125's are actually made by 6 year olds, which is obviously better as they are yet to develop any bad habits. Rumour has it is the H stands for Handicapped but I refuse to comment on that .

BTW, thanks for the good guys. I had another fiddle and decided to err on the side of caution and take it back to the dealer, knowing the build quality of these things didnt seem worth assuming it was nothing major.

They (Colemans) were really helpful and although we haven't pinned it down yet it doesn't seem to be the engine and based on the very reliable "bash" test (why didnt I think of that) we think its the exhaust, either a loose mounting or the inner exhaust is somehow rattling against the outer (or something has been stuffed in there). Was a bit hot to do anything with at the time and he reckoned it was quite safe to keep riding so I'll have a bit more thorough look tonight.

Was my first thought too for what it's worth (not that I'm an expert). Good luck.

Tell them the KB crew reckons one of it's valves may have dropped out of the engine and tinkling around inside the exhaust pipe. Happens all the time..

Dude it's normal it's just exhaust baffles coming loose... GN125s all do this. Poor quality.
...Full throttle till you see god, then brake.
