Old (ish) V10 F1 engine dyno run

Sorry if it's a repost. I know it's smelly old car stuff...but I still found it pretty impressive! Poor old injection is really spewing it's guts out...Sounds impressive too.

I am constantly in awe of the engineering feats! 1500cc and 16 cyl. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJA7V...eature=related

The reliability of the modern F1 engines at the revs they pull has to impress anyone!

Nice video thanks for that- I loved those Renault cars back in 1996 as a kid.

Here is one of my favourites... nothing like the incensed sound of a V4.

...Full throttle till you see god, then brake.

Considering that at 18,000rpm the piston is going up and down 300 times per second it certainly is highly impressive.

And people think an 800cc bike engine doing 18,000 rpm is impressive. Which I guess it still is...

I've watched Dyno runs where the V10's were peaking at 22,000rpm! As far as I know the V8's aren't revving any higher, but what I really like about F1 is like MotoGP, every time they bring in regs to slow them down it's not very long before they are as fast or faster than before.

Imagine if the rules were open and cost was the only limiting factor to development. In racing, they have to try to keep a fairly level playing field but despite that, F1 and MotoGP are still a showcase of technological and engineering progress and I for one love it!

Because everyone in F1 was trying to push their engines past 20k rpm they introduced rev limiters (18k) as they were spending millions on getting a few extra HP and revs. Now the engines can't be changed which is pretty boring and they don't save any money they just spend it elsewhere.
