    SRV250 - Great learner bike!

    Hi guys,

Well the time has come to sell my beloved SRV250. It's been a nifty bike to learn on (I am on my full now), and she's a bit of a looker too! The engine is a twin-carb version of the Virago 250 engine and I believe it puts out about 28 hp, so it's quick enough to be fun. I've taken the girlfriend on the back a few times and it handled it just fine!

The good: It always starts first time, I never even need the choke. I bought it off a very meticulous guy who had just gotten it road-ready after not riding it for a couple of years - he put on new rear indicators, put in a new battery and got the carbs cleaned and valve clearances checked. I've had the fork seals done last year by TSS in Lower Hutt, and last changed the oil about 1000km ago. It lives in a garage. It breezed through its recent WOF at Scooterazzi, with a mention that the rear tyre will need replacing at the next WOF in September. It is registered until 19th May.

The not as good: It does drip a little bit of oil. Sometimes it'll have a couple of drips overnight, and sometimes it'll go a couple of weeks without dripping anything. Maybe it's temperature related, I don't know. And the other thing is that the tachometer is bung. It just stopped working a couple of weeks after I bought it. Typical eh! This is not a WOF requirement, but it is a bit annoying. I never found a replacement one. But then I didn't look that hard, and it may be fixable too - I never took it apart.

But overall if you're looking for a comfy, reliable, zippy and cheap 250 that looks like a classic cafe racer, this is it! I am going overseas in May and thought I better gauge interest now, so I don't end up with a rushed sell right before I leave. You lovely Kiwibikers get first dibs before I put it on TradeMe! I'm asking for $2500. You guys can tell me if it's worth that or not...

Awesome learner bike available in Wellington

Guess posting about a for sale ad is not allowed. Ah well, worth a shot.
