i'd own one, if it's a girls sports car then they will feel secure being picked up by a guy in one, under the assumption that he (I) am gay, ergo a big surprise when one realises I have no pants on.

Plus, it would have to have a V8 shoe-horned in to it.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO don't say such heresay!!!!

Sorry bro, an MX5 is a small car with a bit of a sporty appearance but hardly a true sports car mate!

To compare, an Aston Martin DB9 or Porsche 911 or similar are true sports cars. Appearance, engine, suspension, transmission and all the rest need to be true sports refined parts to make the whole vehicle a genuine sports car.

If comparing an MX5 to motorcycle categories it would be a "street car". The DB9 would be a superbike.

Not that I am Mr Picky....

That aside, good to hear you are out and about. I will bring the bike around on my days off if you are free. Catch up for coffee somewhere. Bring the street car

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Were the Triumph TR2/3/3A not sports cars? The MG Midget, Austin-Healy sprite, many small engined Marcos and TVR beasts? The MGB-GT has less power and none of the chassis finesse, yet it's one of the most successful sports cars in the world.
The MX-5 is a sports car, it's like a modern Lotus Elan, just because it lacks in badge credentials just like the S2000 and NSX, and most Jap cars.... it's a finely balanced and very fun car, in tribute to the Brits they forgot to put some power in them

No, you're wrong. MX5 is a sports car, just like the 60's Lotus Elan it was designed specifically to look like. Two seats, a bit better than standard go, a lot better than standard handling and pretty to look at...you're confusing "sportscar" with "supercar".

Definitely must catch up, I'm very flexible timewise. BUt I do also feel the MX5 is traditional psorts car and the ones you mention a desriable but out-of-reach supercars. We paid just over $5K for ours and it's valued at $7k.

Two of my favourites! "Power is nothing without control" as they say, and I do agree that 130hp isn't a huge amount, but the car is so well balanced with beautiful steering and flat handling it would take a very well driven powerful car to beat it in the twisties, even my mates 500hp AMG Merc. ALthough give a straight anywhere and I'd not see his exhaust...

No it is you who is wrong. It is an ordinary car that looks a little sporty. Nothing more.

Pretty much proves my point really.

Yeah mate, I am just winding you up...... I have one more night shift. Will see what our timetable is for my days off mate. It has been too long between visits!

Having driven some elite sports cars (the last of which was a new DB9), I find everything else seems very underwhelming. It was a bit like test riding any bike after the Hayabusa.
