Hampton Downs - Sidechairs ruin another race meeting by dumping oil on the track!

A sidechair/sidecar/sidecrap dumps a huge load of oil on the track yet again causing massive delays and no doubt causing several of the crashes in the proceeding races...... Questions....

#1 Who scrutineers these things? Whilst some are very good, clean competition machines, others(most?) would be laughed out of the pits in any other country. Filthy, poorly built and maintained bikes should not be on the track especially at a national championship event.

#2 Who cares about sidechairs? Watch the stand empty when they are up next, seriously. It is a perfect time to get a hotdog or take a piss which is exactly what 75% of the people seem to do. With so many exciting classes that would actually interest people, raced by modern bikes wtf are they even doing there?

#3 Where is it going? Is there any potential for any of these outfits or riders to move onwards overseas to international success? When you have a near 100k chair racing a heap of shit ancient gsx1100 powered piece of crap that belches smoke and steam from every orrifice what are you really achieving?

Anyway, I'm oviously pissed at another meeting ruined by bikes that only 1% of people at best even cared were there.

P.S whoever decided that there didn't need to be power in the prize giving marquee forcing the winners names to be read in the dark by torchlight - you are the man!!

The first lap or three were pretty exciting. Did get a bit long in the tooth once the field spread out though.

Absolutely amateur hour wasn't it! I could not believe the final round of the NZSBK prize giving was held in such appalling conditions...very unprofessional when all it would have taken was a little "for-sight" (ok...terrible pun I know) for power and lighting! Not to mention that the 600SP riders were unable to give a speech to thank their sponsors and team for all the effort they put in! WTF?!

Sorry to read of your dissapproval...perhaps you could also voice your concerns to those in a postion to do something about it otherwise this may happen time and time again. One can really 'hear' your frustration.

Sadly, im not going to argue with poster one.
In all fairness, the problem that caused the day two oil spill would have never been found during scrutineering.
Who scrutineers them? an extremely meticulous chap that has been competing & scrutineering sidecars for a number of years (no not me). His own machine is by far the best presented sidecar in NZ.
Unfortunately, a scrutineer cant compensate for sheer muntage (That is, when someone is a complete munter)
I feel AMCC did a brilliant job given the state of things, & if our "friend" hadnt spewed oil all over the track, lighting wouldnt have been needed at the prizegiving, as it would have taken place an hour earlier.

Bugger. And I thought this would be entertaining...

Serious question- Given that sidecars don't lean, how hard would it be to have a decent sized tray big enough to contain all of the fluids under the engine?

At the 2010 Nelson Port races, races were seriously delayed twice when classics left huge oil slicks, one went about 2/3 of the way around the track. I couldn't help thinking that it could easily be avoided if bikes these were forced to have some sort of oil containment system.

They all do & are required to by the rules.
This thing emptied its entire sump into the tray & it was sloshing over the sides.

And people chuck off at Buckets being shitty, badly built and generally the "arse-end" of racing.....
I like the sidecars, they're something a bit different to watch and those guys and girls are NUTS!

    Nice thread!

Its a shame all the sidecars get labelled when really it was just one fucken idiot, was he the one that cocked up friday as well?? I have spoken to several eye witnesses that said they could see the thing smoking and they kept goin! He should have his licence suspended for unsportsmenlike conduct, I would have prob had mine suspended if i could have found where they were pitted....

I certainly brought it to the attention of the club but it wasnt just the oil it was all the bloody rocks that were all over the track!

I have to correct you on one point poster one. The orange GSXR1100 outfit didnt blow steam or oil, it was one of the most oiltight machines there & dosent even have a radiator to blow steam from.
Those guys are doing their "apprenticeship" on it & are safe sound competitors, & all 'round top blokes with great senses of humour.

The fact that it doesn't lean makes it worse.

Ask the spectators at Wangy or Paeroa etc. if they like them. But each unto their own.

I've raced and won twice in Aus, so too has Colin Buckley, and Chris Lawrance has raced at the I.O.M.

Or racing any other machine in the class....... a one horse race really....

Anyway, I'm oviously pissed at another meeting ruined by bikes that only 1% of people at best even cared were there.

Man, I really wished I'd been there now.................
