    Intro (redhat)

Hi to everyone that reads these. Just came across this site from a youtube comment, and boy am I glad I did. Big community, lots of content.. awesome.

Been riding for a few years (19 years old now), mainly dirtbikes on the trails up around Tauranga and back in September or so of last year I bought a CBR250 (MC19) to get on the road.

Up until March everything was good, having a great time on it and I love the bike... on the open road and just commuting. Well last month I was heading down the Kaimais out of Tauranga (only bout 90km/h), slipped out on something on one of the corners and hit the curb. Barely missing the fence and lucky enough to not slide into oncoming traffic. Things weren't too bad for me, broken wrist in two places, lots of bruising, bit of road rash as I was only wearing my jacket/gloves and jeans/shoes. Learned my lesson with the gear now. I'm thinking my helmet was a little big for me too (seemed like a snug fit beforehand) as I hit my face on the inside of the helmet apparently, and had a couple stitches right between the eyes.

So I'm doin ok for my first big crash, but itching to get back out there.... this cast is killing me. Bike is fine mechanically, but cosmetically I'm needing to replace the front cowl, mudguard, both side fairings, mirrors, r/h footpeg and the mirror bracket that goes along with it. I also managed to scratch up the frame somehow, I assume it was a weird angle and hit the curb? And dents in the top of the tank.

I've taken the fairings off and that (naked is always sexy), but now starting to look at a couple options for the bike...I'm also needing to do something about the tank, would I just take it in to a panel beater and see what needs to be done? I'd also like to do something about the frame and engine casing being scratched up, but don't have much of an idea about that.

If anyone has some recommendations for anything in Tauranga, don't hesitate to post. Couple pics of the bike as is.

    you have had fun..!!

first thing i would do is phone Quassi and get a set of his leathers
    and some boots

then work on the bike, there are some good people in TGA that can help you with fairings and anything else...

    but get ya gear first.....

    also.. naked is best

    what a ride so far!!!!

Welcome! Nice bike choice , sorry to hear about your off - glad your not too beat up and itching to get back on the road.

i was pretty close to getting myself a spare set of fairings from this site. My plan was to sand them down and paint them matt black (wasnt too keen on their colour schemes). Im not sure how good the quality is or anything but they seem pretty well priced compared to other places. The thing that put me off was the price of another fuel tank - I got quoted $480 from a local wreckers for 1 that was in pretty average condition. Maybe you should investigate the panel beater option for your tank . Also do some research im sure you'll be able to find something cheaper than what i got quoted...

Where abouts can you get the full fairing kits that give it the 600 look? Sounds like a pretty good plan if it doesnt cost to0o0oo much.

Theres a frame on trademe if you look here

Im ordering my mc19 a new set of clutch and brake leavers next week from ebay. If your keen we could probably get a set each and combine shipping. They'll cost around $65nzd inc shipping. Only thing is it'll probably take around a fortnight for them to arrive.

listen to aj about getting leathers before anything else; lots of people on here seem to recommend the 1-tonne gear and it shouldnt set you back too much. Dont skimp out on a helmet - do some research and get one thats had a safety rating of 4 or 5 stars from the sharp website and make sure it fits really well (theres a helmet fitting guide on that website).

i'm not a fan of the naked looking cbr but its up to you

good luck with the project and getting back on the road
