    As headbanger said....meh

I imagine you should be relatively smart, and have put away a bit to ride out the storm. It sucks when things like this happen though as it throws everything out of kilter. But job security is almost non-existent these days.

however on the emotional side of things - it really sucks when your company tells you, you no longer have a job. It guts you.
But eventually you land back on your feet - you just have to lower your bar a bit.

Clearly I gave you too much credit.

I am not a police officer. I left the police in 06 to return to banking for the sake of better supporting my future family. I lost that job after incurring significant motorcycle crash injuries including a head injury and a long recovery - too long for my role to sustain. I then had a huge fight on my hands with ACC and then went without income for a year - crippling us financially as we had our second child on the way prior to the crash.

I currently work for a very low salary trying to rebuild my career and am trying to sort a second job on top of that and family commitments. My wife only works part time as we have a 2 year old and 3 year old to support and as such earns nowhere near what you likely think... salaries are not that high in govt departments unless you are right up there.

You should have got your facts straight before making such a damming and rather stupid assersion.

Thanks to the others for the kind words of support.

I thought he did well, guessing your occupation, for an ice cream salesman.

All the very best Toasty. Hopefully it will all come right in the long run, as you both appear to have the dedication to make it, despite what chance throws [in] our way.

He got you good though :P

Chin up Toaster. As long as you have your family things can't be that bad.

I went through similar a few years back (with a new born at home as well) then thought I was going to repeat the process last year (funnily enough with our 2nd child about 1 year old). This shit always seems to come at the wrong time and all you can do is laugh, pick yourself up, and soldier on (I found counting the new Grey hairs kept my mind off it).
    Ciao Marco
