As a middle class pakeha sheila, I am aware of the cultural significance of not sitting on tables from which you eat - we even discouraged students from sitting on desks at school, even though they're not even for eating from. However I do have to wonder, are there things we carry too far? It was pointed out in the article that for many pakeha sitting on a table, or putting feet up on the table isn't exactly a huge no-no. (In many homes it might not be considered good manners, but hardly a

horrified moment; in fact in lots of homes its not uncommon for the dirty family moggy to sits its hairy little dirty bum on the table, even while people eat!!! don't ask, doesn't happen in our house, but seen it heaps of times...)
So where do we draw the line at what should be seen as acceptable on tv or not?
thoughts anyone?
Yeah ... that complaint is a little OTT ...
