RGV250 1990 - your thoughts?

Heya all i being reading heaps on this forum and thought that id better sign up to it and get involved.

Anyways my main point in this thread is that on sunday im picking up my new RGV250 1990 its got a VJ21 in it, being rebuilt and currently sits at 17000k's on the odo after being rebuilt and starting at 15000.

So give us your thoughts on it. I cant wait to get it i havnt ridden in a while it comes complete with wof and reg, everythings ready on it.

Ive just heard alot of shit about them but i think its because people constantly under estimate 2 strokes. there a great runner and im quite the mechanic myself and i found this be a steal of a deal. Ive always gone with two strokes so either its just me or society doesnt bide by em.

Not much to know, great bikes and significantly more fun than any of the 4 stroke 250s. Just feed it good oil (2 stroke and gearbox) and service it per the manual. At those kms I'd put a top end kit on it straight away, they're very cheap at the moment. Costs nothing to take the expansion chambers off and inspect the face of the piston/bore.

most of the 'shit' youve heard is probably from poor souls who have owned 2 strokes after unknowingly buying them off some hairy-faced ham-fisted cunt with the backyard mechanic skills of a fucking labrador, who has mde a huge mishmash of things, and left the new owner with one hell of a fucking headache to sort out.

Provided it hasnt been assfucked by a backyard monkey, it will be a great fun bike. Lots of small, regular maintenance is the key to them. Lots of people think they can do the required maintenance, and end up slowly fucking them because theyve no idea what the hell theyre doing.

Run good quality 2 stroke oil in it, do the regular shit you gotta do, and if in doubt ask for help or pay a mechanic. Enjoy what is a very fun toy, and extremely fast, when in the hands of a skilled rider with equal gifts of talent and testicle diameter!

oh sweet as, i was looking at getting the bike wrapped in protective film to protect it just from our useless weather. whats the deal with that shit anyway? worth it or nah? if not what you reccommend? i just dont want the smallest of bolts to rust and corrode away and the paint job slowly fade.

If it runs good and has been rebuilt then I guess just check out the suspension for pitting, leaking, poor action and that the brake discs aren't warped. Have the powervalves had work?

I brought a new blade and had it done in the 3M film. Money well spent, I'll do it to all my new bikes.
