In Japan, you can get blind drunk, sleep in a gutter, and in the morning your wallet will still be in your pocket.

I can guarantee that a lot of looting happened in Japan after the quake, just on a smaller proportion to what one would expect.

    You'd make a good politician.

I've got no basis either way but my impression of the disciplined and ordered Japanese society is that is there was looting, it would be for survival, not greed. Our Christchurch looters would steal TVs and jewellery. Theirs would steal food and water.

Smokeu you made a silly statement and got called on it

Looting is not usually defined as taking necessities of life
food and water to survive is not looting in any definition I have seen

No looting in Japan? I call bullshit. The japs are the type to not admit things that they think would be embarassing. When shit like that hits the fan, people go into survival mode, and do things they think might help them survive.

Maybe they havent CAUGHT anyone looting, but really, they had better shit to do than apprehend a few japs nicking shit aye

The act of looting, the act of stealing during a general disturbance

loot - take illegally; of intellectual property; "This writer plundered from famous authors"
loot - goods or money obtained illegally
loot - plunder: steal goods; take as spoils; "During the earthquake people looted the stores that were deserted by their owners"
loot - boodle: informal terms for money

Having spent some time in Japan, I'd doubt very much there would be any noticeable looting. Sure for water and food, but that's been covered already.

You're the one who just made a silly statement!

It's not really fair to say "New Zealanders steal stuff, but Japanese people are all saints".

You get good and bad people from every country. Saying that looting doesn't happen in Japan is rather ridiculous. The media has far more important things to do their stories on than a bunch of hoodrats stealing TVs out of an electronic store. A nuclear crisis springs to mind...

Regardless of the different cultures, where would this looting be happening? The worst affected areas have been wiped out.
