Getting additonal insurance cover for motorbike gear?

Just wondering how many people have paid extra so their motorbike gear is covered by their motorbike insurance?

I've always just claimed my gear on my houshold insurance, never had a problem.

Had done the same ummm several times until I scored a policy with my bike insurance company which covered the first $3k of gear.
Obviously a better situation that 'double hitting' re no claims etc

Probably should have mentioned it in my first post but I dont have house and contents insurance.

Kiwibike quoted an extra $180 per year for $5k cover, my gear is worth close to $2k

    double whammy

I'm with State and when I dropped my bike late last year I claimed for damage under the bike insurance to be told that was fine for the bike but my gear is under household. That meant losing two lots of excess for one incident, not nice. I will be shopping around soon for an insurer who allows both bike and gear under the one policy.

There are better options. For the money, get ALL your gear covered for not much more money.

    Cheers

I am with Vero. I believe I pay the annual fee for full bike cover and this covers all safety gear? I will check to make sure that is correct. There is a small additional excess to claim on gear but it is very small. And I couldn't be happier with Vero. After my accident, they are working very closly with me on my claim for my bike, and they only require photos of helmet and gear etc to asses for full replacement which is happening at the moment.

I also don't have house or contents insurance, and made sure my bike insurance did cover gear too.

Contents insurance is cheap, and it covers more than just your gear.

What! no H&C insurance . But what happens when someone breaks in and steals the TV. They will sue you for the damage to their back trying to lift the bloody thing
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker

NAC (National Auto Club) include $2500 gear cover in their motorcycle policy if the sum insured is more than $10,000 or less than $10,000 and the insured is a member of a club.

Too right, like covering your liability if you accidentally set fire to the house you're renting.
