The (small) amount of research out there I've seen, suggests the opposite.....Have yet to see research that proves that piracy has a negative impact.

There will eventually be tech that makes it easier to buy music than to pirate it.
It's already happening with iTunes.
Plenty of computer shops selling floppy disks too bro.
Barring moral subjectivity, people will take the path of least resistance. If it's easier and quicker to pay for something and the price is right, there's not much more incentive to illegally get it.
Yeah it's still relatively easy to pirate at the moment but as the gap closes, you'll see more and more people not bothering.
This and also the fact that the law is only really starting to catch up with the internet now.
I know all this is powerfully undude but shit's happenin.

OK, so I earn $12.50 an hour. An average music CD costs around $30. It will take about 2.5 hours of work to purchase a CD. It takes a lot less time to pirate an album.
It takes about 2 minutes of work to pirate a whole album. I can leave Bittorrent running in the background while it downloads, so that doesn't count as work.
PS: Who the phuck still uses floppy disks? My motherboard doesn't even have a floppy drive connector.
I said, if the price is right. To start, $30 is way too much for a CD.
Besides, I'm considering all else being equal - that is that you earn money regardless of whether you are pirating or not.
The reason is so that you can compare the actual act of getting the music. And this is about normal non-geeks, non-criminals, ie the majority.
It is far easier to tap a few buttons and be listening to an album from iTunes than it is to download a torrent client, search for a torrent, wait for the trackers to load, wait for the speed to pick up, finish the download, find the file, load it into your music library, press play.
And that's today, I'm talking about tomorrow.

1) Have you actually used Vuze? It pretty much does all of the above and a chimp could use it.
2) Plenty of my "average joe" customers can figure out browser extensions like Flash Video Download.
3) Plenty "average joe" customers can borrow their mates/libraries CD's, stick em in the PC and rip them.
4) Plenty of my "average joe" customers copy their purchased iTunes music onto their mates devices without even realising it's naughty
Put a "download/rip" for free button on software or have the ATM accidentally spit out an extra $100 note. If there's next to no risk of legal consequences then you'll find the majority of people are criminals.
ps. Dunno what computer shops you guys use but I haven't sold a floppy disk for 5 years. Had to import a USB floppy drive recently.

Also if a service such as hulu, which seems to deliver content on time and gives the user the option to watch it whenever they like, was available how much piracy do you there would be here?
