I don't care if the NZ government bans certain games, movies or porn. It doesn't affect me in any way because I can still get it for free online.

Bloody bureaucrats sitting around on their arses, "oh no, no one in the country needs to view such heinous material we'll create criminals". What a bunch of hootnanny, if you're an adult you should be able to view/play whatever takes your fancy that has been created.

I thought we lived in a free country. WTF!

If you'll excuse me I'll be off to play a banned game Manhunt. Mmmm plastic bag around his head and hold.... hold.... hold....

    One word for you "de-sensitization".

Watching that shit numbs your empathy toward others pain and suffering, my own generation has done more than enough to fuck society with its dogged pursuit of "freedom of choice for the individual", if you are truely representative of the following generation then we are well and truely fucked.

Maybe you should ask yourself why you find such material entertaining and whether it offers a positive influence in your life or a negative influence. If you claim its neither and that it's nuetral, then you are either a fool or outright lying to yourself.

.... back in green and feeling great ....

    +1.
I suspect a lot of the anti-censorship people don't know how bad it can get. I used to be anti-censorship and still am anti the foolish censorship but I know we need censorship for the extreme stuff. I don't want snaff movies! If you think Saw is near the bottom of the barrel you would be wrong, it is but the tip of the ice-berg. Sure get rid of the pixelated bums etc (we all have bums and knwo what they look like so don't make them dirty (pun not intended)) but don't get rid of censorship, refine it, use the 85 percentile rule or something like that.

Surely the values of a culture are passed on through the generations by the stories that are told and the games that are played. Life is a wee bit short, or would be, for each of us to learn everything by direct experience. Censorship always seems a bit of an imposition of others opinions but we seem to have moved to market viability being the only criteria irrespective of who gets exploited.
Guess I would be inclined to ban all politicians from all public media.

    Late reply but...

How does watching fake occurences desensitize you? Sure when you're young and influenced easily... but once you're over 18/21 surely that point of empathy has reached a constant. I could shoot people for days and days on end (in a game) but would that make me even want to consider doing such a thing in real life? Of course not, I'm sickened to even go hunting for rabbits, it's just not my thing at all.

Fake violence is entertaining. To entertain you require conflict and resolution (usually). Violence is one form of conflict very common in humanity. Just like drama, usually they go together quite well. To pretend as though it isn't is just being blind.
