the issue is that we have a geographically diverse market but only 4 and a bit million people in total... so disttributors have to wonder whether the cost of showing a film will give them a return. Its a no-brainer for Avatar, or anything with the loathsome Adam Sandler, much less so for anything niche. Short answer: I reckon it will be a festival release if its released at all.
Think of the plight of the movie loving punters of Christchurch: Regent on Worcester is toast, Rialto is closed till further notice, even Hoyts Moorhouse is closed.
There is only Hoyts Riccarton (its in a mall: say no more), Hornby (3 screens, also in a mall) and Sumner movie theatres open. Oh well, just get a video: except Alice in Videoland is behind the redzone cordon.
