Hi Steve,
As a matter of interest,Have you had much response too this thread??
Unfortunately no.
Other than the VMCC supported riders who we will be coaching, I have had one other rider express interest.
Interestingly, for me anyway, he is not an NZer, already goes quite well, bu recognises that he has never had any coaching or schooling in this sport.
Is it just 'cos he isn't an NZer that allows him to see the value?
I am also quite willing to accept that many will feel that I am not well qualified to attempt to do this in a professional manner (no one has actually said this to me though, by the way). That is up to them.
However, I think the results of riders who have been through Moto Academy NZ since 2008 show at least a modicum of competence. Bearing in mind, I am not suggesting that I will turn anyone into a champion, just that I will help provide and develop skills that will make a rider safer, more aware, more knowledgable and better than they were when we started.
Anyway, as you were.

Well I say good on you mate and keep up the good work. I don't see many other people doing what you do.
I would be most interested!!just missing a few minor details, bike etc...
once I get that sorted will be in touch, have to practice on my bucket for the mean time.
Ok Styeve , your not good enough to teach , ok ....
Its not really about the teacher ,its about the desire.
There are few of us Steve.you , Billy , Red , Maarty , ohh and me . Old school that pass on where we all went wrong .
If the knowledge gained from fuckin up makes the teacher the best then all of you piss off and leave to to do all the teaching.
I would imagine the economics are a big part of slow response to the offer, thats a seasons fees for a club rider and even though alot of folk see your offer logical its not affordable. Sad really but its the sign of the times.
My team has taken a step back this year and thats purely on financial merit.
good luck.
Paul.
I'm keen Steve, just dont know when/how/costs etc. Do you do it at test days?
edit....ok I just managed to get my laptop to open your attachment. I'd love to but will see how the bank accounts lookin![]()
I think you're good enough! You were quite useful to me a few years back when I was getting ready to do a Nat's round at Manfeild and had popped down to do a track day to learn the circuit...
I remember you burning around on your RS250 showing us the best way to lap.

Hey Dr Steve, great initiative, especially down our neck of the woods where training opportunities are few and far between.
I was gonna PM you but figured there may be other folks similarly curious and this might help generate a bit more interest for you.
I'm happy to admit I need all the help I can get but I'm not sure how I'd fit into your coaching group. I can probably only make 3 rounds of the season, and depending on work and/or whatever else crops up may even have to trim that back at short notice. Not to mention I won't fit behind a school desk like those young tape worm infested whippets on the GP125's......
Would you be able to help out a burnt out ol' bastard on a "casual" basis? I don't mean casual as in attitude, I'm doing the best I can with the time available, but casual as in meeting by meeting?
Steve, if it had been last year or the year before I would have ripped your arm off for this opportunity. If it's still available in summer or next year then I be keen.

As of this weekend we now have 4 junior riders and 2 senior riders signed up for the programme.
Vicky, sorry I did not answer your questions: Depending on availability I will be able to make trackdays. Depends on whether I get a real job or not. Need one though!! Anyone got a 3-4 days a week job in the Welly area that would suit me??
Cost is $500 + GST for the season which includes all 6 VMCC rounds, two VMCC trackdays, some Friday testdays as mentioned above and the PMCC if desired, but at additional cost. All teaching and coaching will be at the track and in the scrutineering shed except at Taupo where we will organise something else. We will have classes from others in the industry besides me.
UPDATE: I am happy to announce that Moto Academy NZ and Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup have been able to reinstate our earlier arrangement where Moto Academy NZ is able to select a rider to progress directly to Rookies Cup selection without enduring the pre-selection. This is a fantastic opportunity for any bidding young motorcycle racer in New Zealand. While it is clear that riders in the Moto Academy NZ programme will be at the front of the line, I will be asking around for input on other junior riders who should be considered.

And just to prove that you can teach old dogs new tricks.... I'm joining the Moto Academy coaching programme!
Many thanks to Steve Bagshaw for the opportunity.
I also want to congratulate Steve on his on-going arrangement/relationship with the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup programme... it is initiatives like this that enable the likes of Avalon Biddle and Dan Mettam to get overseas and gain some exposure. And look how well Dan is doing now in the European Junior Cup!![]()
