    Truck racing at Taupo...

    http://www.tauporacetrack.co.nz/defa...cid=53&aid=223

1st time at Taupo, hope its the last..........

What does the truck racing do the the South Island tracks?

The last track walk I did at Taupo (BRM Rd3 in feb) the repair patchs on turn 2 (might have been turn 4?) were starting to lift and had piece missing

How much does a race truck weigh? and have they raced at any other Nth island tracks?

It does fuck all if the track is in good condition

Used to be 5 tonne minimum weight

Did a few laps of the old Ruapuna circuit in one, fucking awesome 160kmh in a truck

my understanding talking to track caretakers is that toyota race series and v8's do more damage to the track surface due to both the horizontal forces generated from wings and slicks and the brake loads from v8's + weight. Trucks aren't liked for their desire to be partially offroad in many instances

For anything race related from arai helmets, to sprockets and chains, XT Lap timers, HRC parts you name it, Kev can get it www.racesupplies.co.nz

Had to say i was a bit worried what the trucks had done to Ruapuna the week before the endurance race (as Ruapuna seems to have deteriated a lot in last 6 months) But it seemed like they had actually flattened some of the bumps.
I think the worst culprits for F*^king a track are the drift mob............. they screw shit out of the surface - leave burnout rubber all over the place - deposit 50% of the infield grass on the track - bits of car everywhere......... and never clean uo after themselves.
Should stick to Countdown car-parks........ muppets......imho

hi all i am a super truck owner an am a little worried at the misperception that alot of people have about the trucks damaging the tracks. We have raced at all tracks throught nz over the years but due to insufficent barrier restraints we are now limited to timaru christchurch and now taupo so you have not to worry about any surface damage to the tracks because it doesnt happen gforce testing has been done and as earlier mentioned trs cars and nzv8s are likely to do more damage if any at all

We're lucky in the SI - our tracks are built on gravel based soils so damage is pretty rare nowadays.
The older racers will remember the damage done by F5000 cars - the sweeper at Ruapuna had the tarmac pushed up into ripples and actually stretched across the exit by those weapons - wings and 15 inch wide slicks with 500 plus HP.
Most of he resurfacing done since those days has been done in a better material which resists creep much better.

The only issue with trucks is when they do drop a wheel off the edge of the track they dig pretty deep. As mentioned earlier the much loved drift fraternity does much worse.
As for the track surface itself - no worries
