Shouldn't be too hard to get something customed up on the existing seat pan should it (or am I kidding myself)

Could do it yourself depending how good you are, just get yourself some sheet metal or you could make a mould and make a fiber glass set, just paper mache a mould and done.

Yeah I'm not that good, thought I might try somebody like Rider seats to make something on the existing pan.

I can do some sheet metal fabrication, Its been a while since I last done it, I dedicated like an entire year of high school to nothing buy engineering fabrication and welding haha which has been great the school has allowed me to come in every know and again and use their facilities and tools and they give me the steal and what not on the cheap so long as I pay for it, maybe ask some of the high school metal work teachers if any of their kids want to do it as a project to put towards their NCEA levels, thats what I used to do, I made all sorts of shit for all sorts of people and it passed me through all the NCEA Criteria, even spent about 100+ hours building a grass cart fram scratch for the south land grass cart challenge, some good memories there, and I managed to Hijack the thread haha back on topic! ;] .. I can upload some photos of it if anyone is interested in seeing it.

But my suggestion if you want to do it cheap would be to do it that way, you can achieve some really good results too.

It's not so much that it's cheap, it's more that I thought it would be a lot easier for the existing pan to go back on the bike. I'll have a look at a few seats and see how hard it'll be to adapt to fit the frame. Shed 5 have got a nice one with a removable cowl but I think they want over a $1,000 for it!

They look pretty simple to make from an existing seat pans, good how to make a cafe racer seat, There is a forum dedicated to them and there is a really good tutorial on it.

Into something that looks a bit like this! Gotta say, now that it's been pretty much pulled apart I'm starting to wonder how we'll ever get it back together again.

    more questions

Since I've got this thing stripped, is there anything I should just go ahead and replace. Steering head bearing feels pretty notchy so will replace with tapered bearings but are there other things I should just not bother farting with and replace?

As a general rule yes. I'll be running leaner.

Thanks, thought I should probably rejet. Seems like you can get some pretty reasonably priced pod filters off EBay.

Good idea to do the swing arm bushes, might do the wheel bearings as well.

HAve a look here for clamp on filters - US site and pricing of course. They are a excellent quality so you know they are actually doing their job, unlike many of the el cheapo ones.

Re seat - no disrespect to Rider but you may find them pricey for your project. once you have sorted the pan run around a few local car upholstery outfits with the pan and a photo of what you want for a price.

looking good - just don't let it turn up on trademe in a year as a box of parts - 'was running good before I pulled it apart'!!
