    Ignition coil for a GL145?

Anyone know where I can get one or what other bike I can scrounge one off? Mine has slowly been dying and now I think its on its last legs.

Do you have a manual for a GL 145?

I've never seen a workshop manual for them and I have been searching for months. An xl/xr/cb manual will do, as these motors are all VERY similar, just different bores/strokes/main jets etc.

Is the CDI unit in place of the points system it currently has? I'm not flash when it comes to the whole electrics side of things.

Also the barrel is off a 185 that has been bored out to 200. I'm guessing that I'd have to buy the next size up?

    Not sure about that.

A 200 ( 66mm) piston with 49.5mm stroke of a GL 145 makes it around 170cc I am told. Hope you are not bucket racing with it LOL

Says you. You are way too fast to be riding a "Stock Luncheon" as you claim. I feel a protest coming on

I think with the 49.5 stroke the most you can use is 63.5mm bore, works out to around 156.7cc

So essentially a 185 barrel on it's last legs.. Or get yourself a shorter stroke crank

Nah this is my everyday ride. I've been told bucket racers like the engine so thought I'd ask here.

Would I have to buy this http://newmanz.co.nz/shop/index.php?...roducts_id=208 or would the other one suffice?

Huh? Do you need a coil or a CDI?

Or maybe a 12V coil from Repco or Supercheap may do the job as well.

Corner speed, new soft slicks and a decent handing chassis is all you need, although a bit more power would be nice.
Only mods are pipe, flat slide carb and ported head. And I have to pay someone to do it because I took woodwork at school. I should have listened to my Dad, he was an engineer/ engine rebuilder.

    I need a coil.

Sorry, I've been retarded. Having the 2 products in the 2nd post has confused me.

If I buy the coil kit, is it a pretty easy install? Take the old one off, replace with new one, ride it?

Or is there more too it than that?

Piece of cake. Positive terminal on the coil connects to the black/white wire that is joined to the alternator and the points. Negative terminal is earthed to the frame/motor/ball sack.

I didn't see a condenser on the coil though, you need one of those too.

Some days I FEEL old.. Usually only sunday mornings.

Yesh, condenser is a capacitor. I don't know the value in farads that is suitable, so I just bought a cheap 12v condenser from repco.

Only reason I know this shit is I have a GL145 powered bucket project I'm working on. And I think the condenser may be breaking down, maybe the coil.. Process of elimination FTW.

I had a the wire leading into the capacitor break off inside the capacitor on my bike. It barely managed 20km/h. Had to ride it to Rangiora from Christchurch like that though. It was a long boring trip.
