I was watching it with a bunch of American guests at the hotel I used to work at (Hermitage, Mt Cook). I've never before nor since seen Americans so quiet.

Yeah, it hurt them, a lot. Seeing it unfold on TV, on one of their national icons like that. Knowing their countrmen had been involved in some 'disaster'.....it took a while before anyone considered it a co-ordinated attack remember?

I was 3/4 drunk as a skunk in Darwin on 9/11. A USN Amphib grp was in port, shore leave granted, and kiwis and aussies were trying to compete with the yanks over the swedish backpackers invading the vic. Yanks dont grant leave during periods of heightened danger / tensions by the way.
Next thing ya know, their Shore Patrol teams, accompanied by regular marines, all combat armed!! were clearing out the bars in town. They marched straight up to the staff and told em to turn off the sounds, and loud hailer told all yank to report back onboard immediately - sailing orders. It was madness. Their mini fleet sailed the next day. Theres no way in hell them US servicemen had any fore warning about that event.

No it's not. It's put there to cover a trail and leave reasonable doubt. The law can't prosecute under those conditions.

My foot is in the "conspiracy" camp as there are way too many inconsistencies, least of which the lady BBC newsreader saying that WTC 7 had collapsed whilst you could still see it sitting behind her left shoulder . Media getting it wrong ... sure, that's what it was . Media being fed bad information? hmmmmm, from where? sounds a little iffy to me.

There is something about this episode that I wonder about. Why do so many people STILL think Bin Laden did it? The FBI doesn't think he did it. The CIA doesn't think he did it. Dick Chaney doesn't think he did it. His name is often mentioned in the media at around the same time as 911 is mentioned. Is that how these geniuses put 2 and 2 together and deduce that ergo, he must have done it?



I suppose it is remotely possible that someone associated with Al Quaida was responsible but no concrete evidence points to Bin Laden. (Yes, there was that laughable fake video but I don't think anyone in their right mind would call that concrete evidence).

Did Al Quaida do it? Well, if you know what Al Quaida is, then stating that Al Quaida did it makes about as much sense as saying that facebook did it.

Did Islamics who hate America do it? Possibly, but to suggest that they would have had what it takes to pull of something like 911 seems rather far fetched.

I vote for an entity with the means to do it, the opportunity to do it and something to gain from doing it. That is the normal way to look at crime and it is strange to see people looking towards those who do not have the means, the opportunity and certainly nothing to gain and everthing to lose (as history has proven) as the perpetrators. 1. So Saddam didnt condone the Chemical warfare the iraqi's made on the Kurds? Wait, the USA did that? Riiight.

Personally, I honestly do think the yanks are farrrrr less willing to engage in open warfare, or 'peace keeping/monitoring/enforcing' or whatever label they wish to use, nowadays, than they were 5 or 10 years ago.
