Smile Australian Round of the 2012 FIM World Trial Championship:

Australian Round of the 2012 FIM World Trial Championship announced:

Motorcycling Australia (MA) is pleased to confirm a round of the 2012 FIM World Trial Championship has been allocated to Australia in the 2012 FIM Provisional Calendar.

The central Victorian township of Mt Tarrengower, near Maldon, has been named to host the event from 26-27 May 2012.

The announcement comes as a major boost to the sport of Moto Trials, with the world’s premier riders set to travel to Australia to compete for World Championship points.

MA Moto Trials Commissioner Colin Scott lauded the announcement, praising the efforts of MA, the backing of the Trials Club of Victoria (TCV) and all involved in making this a reality.

“Over the last three years we’ve been working closely with the FIM to bring an event to Australia so to see our round on the 2012 provisional calendar is a fantastic achievement,” he said.

“Trials in Australia is a relatively small sport with a lot of our younger riders going overseas and coming back knowing how far we are away from competing at that level.

“So we hope this event will inspire our young riders to work hard and aspire to compete on the International stage.”

More than 15 years has past since Australia last hosted a major International Trials event, when Bendigo, Victoria held the International Super Trial.

Back then it was Englishman Sean Morris who out-performed riders from Australia and the world, with the likes of multiple World Trial Champion Toni Bou to headline the convoy of International stars in 2012.

MA CEO David White said the event would be brilliant for the Trials discipline and a great opportunity for Motorcycle Sport fans to see world-class competition in our own backyard.
“To attract a round of the World Trial Championship is fantastic news for the sport in Australia,” he said.”

“The Trials community are a dedicated and pro-active bunch, and this announcement is nothing less than they deserve for the tireless effort put in to secure a round of the World Championship.

“Not only is this great for Trials fans, but it’s another opportunity for sports fans to see the world’s best riders competing in Australia.”

The 2012 FIM World Trial Championship calendar will be confirmed in November.
It's OK to disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.
