    Bloody fricken ugly disgusting slugs

With all this wet weather my poor bunny has been competing with the gross disgusting king slugs which magically appear at night to steal her rabbit food. They get into her food bowl no matter where I put it, and even drown themselves in her water bowl.

They storm her hutch like a tide of slimy fat obscene vomit-inducing eeeewwww I'm lost for words to describe my revolt at them.

Any ideas how to stop the slugs? (just to clarify, I'm not talking a .22 between her cute little bunny eyes, for those who would like to see the end of rabbits).

I'd put slug bait around her cage but worry that it would still be there in the ground when I move her house. Any suggestions for something that will keep them away but not be toxic to Cilla?
I lahk to moove eet moove eet...

The slugs have been here a lot longer than your bunny. They have their own political party now,......wait, I may have that a bit wrong...........

Sand mixed with salt, going to be very expensive in the long run though. Run a line of sand around the cage.

Or crush some shells and lay them where the slugs get in - sea shells or eggs shells, doesn't matter. Another tip is meant to be a strip of copper across where they get in to the hutch as well, slugs don't like crossing copper apparently.

    Beer traps ?

Failing that, get a tortoise or ducks. They love eating slugs, and lets face it, rabbits are crap.

Ducks, rabbits. Are we now talking feast time? Rabbits are nice in stew.

Bags of industrial rock salt (plumbing outlets have it) would be cheaper ... but try Lime spread about ...

    Or ...

Move somewhere DRY ... (it hasn't rained HERE for quite a while now)

Build a moat around cage out of something like pvc guttering, you will need 4 corners and some glue. Fill with slug pellets or water or salt.

Fit in such a manner that the slugs cannot pass beneath moat. Probably a heavy wood rectangular frame that is heavy enough to sit down hard on the grass to prevent egress from below.

You should also catch a live slug and nail it above the hutch door (the hatch?) as a warning.

I like the sound of the salt trick. You can get a free feed out of it.

I too have an irrational fear of slugs, snails and invertebrates in general.

One thing you can do is bury a smooth-sided, fairly deep plastic container (e.g. a big yoghurt tub) so the lip is at ground level. Fill it 3/4 full with stale beer. Slugs can't get enough of it, fall in and can't climb out, then drown. A few of these around the hutch should do the trick.

They also have trouble getting traction on sand, so you could stand the hutch in a sand-pit?
