Whoo Hooo! I Got A New Job!

With having to work every Saturday (9am-3pm), the shite pay & the dodgy boss getting more & more on my nerves, I finally got off my arse, updated my CV and started applying for new jobs a few weeks ago.

My first port of call was actually a "walk in off the street" situation at the local Power Board last Wednesday, and I walked straight into the middle of major interviews being carried out for multiple positions. The personnel lady told me applications had closed, but as soon as I said I'd worked in the call centre at Telecom for a couple of years, she asked me when I could come in for a proper interview!

So there were 2 hours of tests & an interview on Friday morning & then more tests on Monday morning (before work started - they were very good about that) and I've just now had the phone call offering me a position, and not at the lowest salary they could have given me either.

So 5 weeks training commences on the 1st of August and I have to give my notice in here at the bike shop a week prior to that. (I've been advised not to give them more notice in case they make my life hell or decide to fire me, despite the fact that it would be unfair dismissal).

    Yippee!!!!

Good on you Slim. It's always nice to hear pople getting off their arses when they're not happy in their job, and find another, hopefully where they'll feel more valued.

I wish you all the very best.

The owner's are going to have a bit of a shock, actually. The young apprentice (who's not actually being allowed to continue his apprenticeship here ) handed in his notice on Monday morning & finishes on Saturday. I'll hand in my notice a week before I'm due to start the new job, the ex-accessories lady who still works part time is currently looking for full time work too, so she might not be available in the near future AND the head mechanic is absolutely disgusted with how things are run around here & will also be looking for more work - he just has to complete 3 months here for his immigration papers I think.

I got home last night to find The Man had arranged for us to go out to dinner to celebrate. Bless.

We are heading over to Hamilton on Saturday for a surprise 40th birthday party, and Sunday we're catching up with some friends there before heading home. Maybe another time.

At this stage, the following 2 weekends aren't yet booked ...

    Re the new job

hey slim, great news about your new job, you deserve it, sounds like your man is a keeper !, how far north will you cover in this new job ?, I wouldn't mind a bit of kb discount on my power bill .

hope to catch up with you soon when I go to Whakatane to look at.....................

As far as I know, this is the Trustpower call centre. I'm not aware of any others in the country. Any funny you should think of discounts ... it was the first thing The Man thought of too!

And he sure is a keeper, Dave. It's been 3 months cohabiting together without any major blowups between us & he hasn't chucked me out yet.

Good shit Slim, takes a bit of courage (and a shitty work enviroment) to 'jump ship' and go for a new job.
With the extra money you'll be able to make that trip South for a visit?
