    Dot not

Turns out I don't know shit about email addresses. Does anyone know if this is just a gmail thing or whether it's the same for all of them?

Edit: to clarify, I knew they weren't case-sensitive, I'm just concerning the dots here.

I don't know about the rest of the free sites (hotmail, yahoo etc) but sure as shit, it means a hell of a lot on Exchange, Mdaemon etc.

I'm guessing that Gmail adds the extra aliases, perhaps to simplify any issues that might arise.

edit: and blow me down, I have a gmail addy that has a dot, and indeed, I can login with or without the dot. I'd never even tried.

Yeah I kinda expected this to be common knowledge when I read it.

I was only alerted when I received someone else's mail to my address without the dot...
